^^^ No. A retractable hardtop on a roadster is not a coupe. A coupe is stronger than a roadster because the roof is part of the car's structure. A removable hardtop is just a silly hat that weighs a lot. Roadsters weigh more than coupes because it takes additional bracing to try to remedy the cowl shake that results from a car with no structural roof. In the final analysis, roadsters suck . . .

Did you not have your coffee yet? Did you not read the last sentence of my previous post? Miata is not profitable enough to justify a coupe. Even at BMW price points, the Z4 coupe was killed when the Z4 got a retractable hardtop. I would prefer a coupe for a track car too but I bet that if the Miata were just a 2 door coupe, it would have disappeared years ago. For a fun street car, I prefer a top that opens. Pour some Jack in that coffee.

I think this is a real conundrum for Mazda. On one hand, the ST is a work of art. A joy to use, quiet and very light. Perfect for the target buyer (not us). OTOH, they know a large part of this cars longevity is it's enthusiast fan base, a large portion of which straps a helmet on now and then. Those users want a bolt on HT and Mazda knows it. I hope they'll use the more relevant NA/NB HT sales figures as opposed to the NC HT sales. The over riding concern here for me is just how many ND's will end up on track with an 80% roll bar that fits inside the soft top. Like the NC, it has to be much lower and narrower than optimum. I'll cringe the first time I see an ND at an HPDE with one of those soft top compatible bars and a 6' driver with his helmet 3" above the bar. Mazda did what they had to do to sell cars to the target demographic, us track rats will suffer a bit for it. So yeah, we're already working with a vendor on a bolt on hard top.

Aside from their cost I never understood why people race them.

Just my designery kweer aye, but the hardtop on the NC is sexy, the PRHT is not. I think the NC moved too far from it's core following, and I *think* Mazda knows that. I have considered an NC2/3 but only with a hardtop.

    Let me adjust my statement:

When will I be able to go to a dealer and buy an ND off the lot in other trim levels?

Not sure why you're asking here. You know how the internet works.

Visit Mazda Cars, Sedans, SUVs & Crossovers | Mazda USA
    Do dealer search
Cut/paste dealer name into google to get dealers website
    Do inventory search

I see Clubs and GT's mostly. Lots of automatics surprisingly. Haven't found a Sport yet but I just started looking.

edit: Don't do an inventory search from MazdaUSA's site. It'll only return 2015's.

I guess that answers my question. I thought only LE models had made the oversea journey so far.

Fremont Mazda has 13 2016 Miatas in stock. Only 3 manuals which are all jet black grand touring.

I could only find 5 manuals in all of the bay area across 11 dealers.

Not wild but where it counts
If nothing happens and there is no one around why did it not happen?

Haven't seen any yet here in ATL. Someone told me there is a 3 month wait in this area for the ND.
