Default Miata vs. FRS - "Buyers' Poll"

    Pick one . . .

Suppose that you had to sell your current track car and could only replace it with one or the other.

And, yes, to my knowledge, the Miata has not been priced; but an early impulse indicator may in order.

Too soon. No published hp/tq figures or performance numbers that I'm aware of.

Around 2200 pounds and no struts. I'll take one [Miata] in white.

Can't make a judgement call without specific numbers, but let's say for the moment the prices are similar. I still have to take a lower powered, lighter Mazda over the Toyburu. Suspension, interior, chassis dynamics will play a huge part in the decision. I am bothered by the number of glitches in the Toyburu and the dealership issues as such dealing with them. Add Mazda's excellent grassroots racing support, it's a no-brainer.

I am reading this morning that two engines may be offered, the SkyG 1.5 and 2.0, 130 and 155 hp respectively. In a vehicle around 2300#, it's pretty decent. I am hoping the 2.5 SkyG at ~184hp would be offered as a Mazdaspeed option or something to that effect. THAT would be compelling to me to purchase an ND new.

As it sits, I am a bit more excited about the ND further driving the prices on the NC2 downward.

Miata. Lighter, double A-arm all around (I presume), better weight distribution, Miata aftermarket.

I saw that, too. Where did that quote, "Miata is always the answer" come from?

I'm not sure, but it's kind of genius. I thought we just came up with it on here, but maybe it was a piece of inception-style marketing genius from Mazda

I'd have to agree. You can always make more power but it's difficult to make things lighter.

I started thinking about this last night. I could halt my current NB2 build and just make it run, sell it along with my race car and be a good bit closer to an ND. I think I'll continue with the NB2 and give the ND a couple of years to get rid of any bugs.

The miata better track car. Brz better street daily car.

Rumor is Toyota is building a new lightweight compact to compete directly with this new miata.

    Great minds think alike.

    Colin Chapman:
Simplify, then add lightness, was his philosophy, way before minimalism became a high street term.

Adding power makes you faster on the straights, subtracting weight makes you faster everywhere.

I'll believe it when I see it. For years there have been rumors of competitors making their versions of Miatas. Honda, VW, Kia, Chrysler(which could now share ND chassis) to name a few. Bring them on, competition is good for the consumer.
