Default Looking For Track Car Rental - Spring Mountain

Long time lurker from the east coast. Heading to Vegas for business next month and have an opportunity to participate in a Spring Mountain member day as a guest on September 10th. Can anyone point me in the direction of an individual or company that rents track cars in this area? This will be a HPDE day, no racing.

    Thanks,
    Guy

Thanks. Yes, I've seen that and called. So far I can't seem to find anyone there interested in renting a car.

Just one day. Sunday, September 10th. Flexible on the car, currently tracking my Corvette. I've been on track with my past cars which include an S2000, M3, Cayman, and TTRS. Just looking for something affordable to have some fun with. Never been on track in a Miata, that would be fun to try.

A Spec Corvette sounds about perfect. Where's the rental counter?

I'm a member at Spring Mountain and I've always thought this was something that has been missing. It's not easy to find a rental and I've always thought that they could have a reasonable business return to have some type of rentals available for guests, spouses, etc. Maybe your best bet is to rent something reasonable at the rental counter in Las Vegas and have some fun on the track with that.

I've helped a friend with race car rental. It is a difficult business:

    1. Customer over Rev engines
    2. A set of tires mounted is $600 to $1,200 a set. Can be used up in 1 weeekend
    3. Seat takes hours to setup.
    4. Abusing brakes.
    5. Abusing transmission.
    6. Fuel is $100 to $200 a day
    7. You got to baby sit them all day
    8. Transportation if renting off site.

$1,000 a day is a no profit proposition.

i once thought what a great way to finance a racecar. Renting one out at $3k/weekend sounds like a fast way to pay off your car. But you are 100% correct! And you haven't even factored in the fact you can't get liability insurance. The car is cheap compared to what an idiot can sue you for..

    Two options:
    1. rental car at Avis / Budget / Enterprise. My SO rented a Mazda6 and it was a blast.

    2. I'd rent you our chump car. It's a MX3. Will run 1.75hrs on a full tank of fuel. Three wheels virtually every corner. Silly fun. Find a way to get it to SMMR and back, and I'd rent it for $50.

Exactly why I never rented out my old race car. I probably would have rented to a friend but all of my friends who might have been interested already had race cars.

This is probably the best bet.

It is important to know that Hertz and most other rental agencies are now specifically excluding any damage from their insurance that happens on a track.

Regretfully, I don't think any of the Spec Corvettes are fully developed enough yet to rent.

Thank for the offer Kam, I don't know how I would transport it back and forth. I just heard back from Spring Mountain. I'm told they don't technically rent cars, however they do offer private instruction which includes a car. A Stingray is available for $2,900, a GS or Z06 for $4,000. Once the instructor signs off, you can go out on your own. I'll be passing on this offer.

Plenty of nice hardware to rent at the airport and through TURO, not sure what the issues are with that. I would think they have some kind of GPS tracking and wouldn't be at all happy with track use.

I almost rented a porsche boxster via Turo for an autocross, but the morality set in, knowing I'd be thrashing on someone's personal vehicle.

I'd stick with the budgets/sixts of the world. They said nothing when we brought back the Mazda6 after the track day. Instead of the Porsche mentioned above, rented an Altima then did an autocross with it with my SO. Codrove the car thru like 14+ runs. They said nothing.

What's the difference between a rental car and a 4 wheel drive?..... A rental car will go anywhere. It's amazing what people do in rental cars. A long time ago I was at an autocross event at an old airport (El Toro) and on the next runway over someone was running a drifting school and they were using 5 or 6 Hertz rental Corvettes. Here is a short (blurry) video.

They would probably look a lot harder at a Porsche than Altima when it comes back. With Hertz, the 911 is in the dream car collection, an employee comes out to greet you and go over the car in detail. Probably get the same attention upon return.

If I can't find an HPDE car to rent, I'll probably just hang out for a few hours and ride along with a local for a few laps.
