The beauty of Racepak is you can always add additional external warning lights. All you need is one of their output modules available on their website.

Also don't forget the IQ3 has one "master" external warning light output. I have hooked mine up to a bright light on the dash and you can set it to blink. You could hook this up to a loud buzzer as well.

AND.....if you a running a Haltech or standalone with any extra channels avaialable, you can make these into warning lights. My Haltech does not control a cooling fan but I use the output to energize a relay that turns on a warning light. Then another channel I've used the TPS input to make into a "full throttle light" - good for when reviewing videos. Easy way to tell if you really were full throttle through that corner - NO LIFT!

My water temp and oil pressure gauges are mechanical. I need to figure a way to get warning lights in there. I can go a few laps at busy tracks like Buttonwillow without ever looking at the gauges.

    Coolant pressure light
    Charging light
    Coolant temp

One went of right after the other in Crushers Racepak IQ3 system. Described the incident in this video. Warning "idiot" lights saved the motor and the race for us. I'm a big believer in idiot lights. On William's recommendation we added
the Longacre smart gauges with Programmable warnings to Super which runs a Racepak G2X. Very nice to have.

Aside from their cost I never understood why people race them.
But obviously I just dont get it. -fatbillybob

I am looking at the IQS - I have a haltech ecu - so this discussion is perfect timing. Currently have nothing apart from standard miata gauges (including the decorative-only oil gauge), and a datalogger.

What's the best place to buy the IQ3?

949racing.com also has them, in case you aren't able to get through to 949rqcing.

Wait so you have a datalogger already or you want the IQ3 version with datalogger?

Reason I ask is cause there is a used Haltech IQ3 non logger version on the big used online site that is selling for a great price. Also helps to know which Haltech you are using - my older Haltech was not compatible with an IQ3 but then I upgraded Haltechs.

As long as your Haltech has a CAN output there is a way to get it to work.

Pretty sure my Haltech has a can output but I will check, good point re age of it. I should be ok, will check that also, thanks.

I do have a datalogger but not racepak, will sell that and get the IQ3. Are analog gauges more reliable than the digital ones such as IQ3?

I did a couple of 1 hour enduro's on the weekend, it was pretty busy and a bit of traffic, so not much time for grabbing a look at gauges. All more reinforcement for idiot warning lights as on the IQ3.
