A 1:48 from a car with Under 400 hp on r6's and apparently he didnt feel like rev matching that day. Oh and he only got part of one session in before the car caught fire.....
One last thing I noticed. Timing the record video lap from the start finish line it looks like a 1:53 ish lap. Still a fast time but.....

Lap Battle Finals - Track Masters - Super Street Magazine

UPDATE: Yep you guys are right! just looked at the video again from my laptop (was viewing and posting from my phone) and it was a 1:49.

The second link reads somewhere in there that they had the the car running under 400hp for that lap time. Man i wonder what that rx7 with with some slicks/a6's and more boost would run around there.

damn old school Jack mardikian footage, the car is really light, so it really didnt need much power. I dont think jack ever rev matches

The car does not have under 400hp. There is dyno footage somewhere making 450+rwhp. The car is well equipped and very fast.

I love that car/video. And I count a 1:49 from the apex cone to apex cone of that last turn, so the lap time looks right to me.

I'm wrong and just updated my OP. I cant believe he scoots around the track like that running that time with out any heel toe action. Whenever i botch a downshift like that i very nearly end up backwards! I guess the heel toe maybe isn't necessarily a must for every car.

If I realize that I've botched the blip in time, I try to release the clutch pedal more smoothly than I would normally in hopes of not jolting the car as much.

I'm surprised the driver doesn't HnT too...seems like he would have to drive around it, not to mention possible wear and tear.

If you read the Super Street story, it doesn't seem as though the RX-7 had any kind of fire system on board.

I just drove an RX-7 at a Lemons race. You can get away without rev matching on the rotary engine.

FD engine blows up or catch fire (ask Hakeem) after a couple of sessions. So wear and tear is not an issue.

^^^ Wow, a fast FD. For 3 laps, then call in fire crew to extinguish it.

A 1:48 is definitely possible with that kind of power...if the car is light enough. Either way, by watching that video its clear to me that car makes some serious power. But for starters, unless you know the person and you know where they dynoed their car, you cant really trust what whp numbers people tell you. A lot of people, especially TA people, stretch the truth. Or they may have different maps/power levels and you never know what power theyre running. Not saying people do it to cheat because some have different maps just for reliability reasons, anywhere from a low boost map all the way up to a "kill mode" map. Its just a general TA thing. Beyond that, the dyno makes a huge difference also. On one dyno a car might make around 400whp, while on another dyno it makes around 480whp. I have a friend, and i trust his numbers, so i can use him as an example. I dont remember his exact numbers but its somewhere in this range...he has a 1st gen rx7, his car makes less than 240whp and hes ran 1:53s at BRP #13CW.

That's funny. When I bought my E36 M3 new in 1995, the only other car I really considered was an FD, but ruled it out because I needed a car with a backseat. But that was 17 years ago, and times change.

I am definitely enjoying the reliability of the M3 so far, but it's missing that wow factor.

Actually, 240 bhp was a lot back in 1995. That's about when the great horsepower wars started, which brought is a 505 bhp Z06 in 2005, and a 545 bhp GT-R for model year 2013.
