It was fun. I get the impression they are trying a little too hard. That show is produced by a very talented group of individuals. The photography was stunning, the writing was good, it was fun to watch. I'm sure they felt pressure to highlight the 3 Ultimate hypercars to show their cred but I think we are all really waiting for the silly adventures in foreign lands. That's when the show will really hit its stride I think.

Aside from their cost I never understood why people race them.
But obviously I just dont get it. -fatbillybob

Good fun. The old chemistry between them is still there, and the "lead in" up to the gathering at the tent was stunning, but it did fall off a bit thereafter. I thought the conversation segment was particularly underwhelming, and I miss the Stig and the celebrity stints in the reasonably priced sedan. Looking forward to Jo'berg.'

Oh, and the boys seem to be well compensated for their antics.

I'm glad they're back. My wife even came out to watch "the lads," and she merely tolerates my car/racing obsession.

I got the sense that they were trying to come out of the dugout swinging for the fence. Once they settle in, the chemistry will return to normal. They'll be practical-joking one another and ad-libbing the best moments, and it will be as though they never left.

    The world seems right again.

Ha, my wife is the same. All she cares about is that I don't get hurt. I haven't seen the new show yet, but no Stig and no celebrity laps? Boooo! I liked that part.

Everything posted above is true, the good and bad. TG fans will like it.

    The Bad -
Too much fluff for an hour, too much recycled dialog and jokes. Doesn't hold my attention (same issue with last several TG seasons). Too much quick camera angles that look like a cut/paste inauthentic Block video.
I wish the show was more about cars. There was plenty of time to talk about the M2. Fifth Gear did this better.
Test track is a joke. Why bother - there are so many proper circuits to choose.

    The Good -
    Traveling show.
Autodromo Algarve. Beautiful circuit. Need more filming at race tracks.
More pro drivers and riders. Even better when pitted against each other.

I watching it and I thought it was ok. Good for the very first episode but some of the things like the fight with the audience were a little weird.

Chris Harris did this same test of the same 3 cars on the same tires and published the video about a year ago. Must have been the same time they filmed this. His results would have saved Jeremy's house.

This show cost how much and they have that much filler? Celebrities were (as almost always) a total waste of time as was the air force bit.

celebrity will be back (not sure in which format, don't want to spoil for those who haven't watched it). there is kinda of a "stig"......

everything is a "kinda", as they are treading carefully, worrying about getting sued by Top Gear.

The new track is narrow, so there won't be any side by side actions. That will suck though.

I like it that Grand Tour did it with same tire (McLaren comes with R-Comp). But not sure how that is fair either, if one if more optimized than the other........but I think it is fairer. always hated it when one car has a crappy tire vs. the other....

I also think Grand Tour's test is more "creditable"....it is done with a F1 driver

I think they should up the ante on the celeb lap do a different take. Have a car short course and bicycle course. Celeb has to guess which he is faster on then they run the laps.

    More like an anti-Stig.

Back on TG they usually "raced" on actual circuits. I don't remember any wheel-to-wheel racing attempts on the TG track but I could be wrong.

Overall I really liked the show but I don't think the production values were what I remember them being on TG. I was really disappointed with the back window of the tent and that they didn't get the neutral density gel right on it so you could actually see detail through it with the cameras. With the intro, it doesn't seem like budget should be an issue. Hopefully as the crew works together longer, they'll get the values up where I thought TG was.

There were some awkward moments (crowd fight and the whole guest star bit) but those things didn't put me off from really enjoying seeing them back on screen and doing what they like to do. I may be watching it through rose colored glasses but I think they'll find their groove and work out the awkward bits.

Not a huge fan of the test track. In old TG there were more than a few times the Stig ended up off-course due to either a mechanical or just a very fast car with finicky handling. Can you imagine if they were doing this on the new track? Not sure what they're going to do, but I don't see them putting pseudo-stig in a hypercar to wring it out at the new track where there's zero runoff..

I was after "Jeremy played with the subtitle machine" .
There are really high expectations for this show, so i will not judge the first season too harsh.

I just watched the third episode last night and wasn't terribly impressed. Hopefully they find something that works because as much as I want to like the show, it isn't doing it for me. Sure, I'll keep watching because I've been watching less than great car based TV shows for years.
