This occurred to me while typing my initial response. I was looking at the both in profile. It way have a different front suspension or subframe. Like the Chrysler 300/Maserati, etc. The wheels in the Toyota are also smaller.

Interestingly the dimensions for this car are identical to an MR2 spyder.

You mean like the Mazda BG chassis of years past? Escort/323/MX3/Protege or any of the other Mazda/Ford variants from that partnership?

This car was unveiled at the Tokyo Motor Show today. During the unveiling, Tada the chief sports car engineer for Toyota, said this car would not be made with a partner It is a Toyota only project. It would also be lighter and cheaper than the FR_S.

"Partnership is one solution to sports car projects," he said. "But that's not always the solution. Somethings must be made by ourselves."

He said Toyotas goals is to offer three sports car. This S_FR being the smallest and cheapest, the FRS being in the middle, and the eventual Supra halo car.

    Its growing on me.

Perhaps a bit of tilt (either way?) in the nose would help.

The grille is way out of proportion. Make it smaller and it would look better, but it would still be stuck with being labeled "cute." And who wants a "cute" track car? Oh, wait ...

No. The rumors out of Toyota are 3 FR cars. SRF will be a scion. The new FRS will probably become a Toyota like in the rest of the world. It may get a new Toyota engine with more power probably from the is200t. Subaru will probably do it's own thing since they are killing both the wrx and still.

The next supra will probably be a lexus, i.e. heavy and expensive.

This way Toyota has a sports car priced and targeted to buyers in each line.

Sorry meant current wrx sti. The next impreza is expected to get a whole new platform and engine. It will no longer share many parts with the FRS.

    Default S-FR Race Concept

Here's the "real life" shot from @thespeedhunters IG:

I think the base color change (not "concept car" green) really helped.

Turbo toyota engine, manual trans, 2100hps and base price of less than $20k?

If it happens I might reconsider the fishy face?.

I think this car is more like a rwd mini cooper than a miata.

If I could drive it around with a car cover on, it'd be worth looking into.

I'm clearly in the minority here--I REALLY like the fish face. I small grill and tapered nose would really emphasis the odd, bulbous proportions of the rest of the car, which would be a terrible thing to do. Instead, it compliments those features, sort of like a big ol' nose leading around a pair of floppy ears.
