I have done some re-paving, but am not an expert.

    A few random thoughts:

    1. If you can afford it, it is better to remove cracked and "alligator" sections to the "base" rather than apply a "skin patch" to cover them up. The cracks will reflect back through a thin patch.
    2. The temperature of the asphalt mix is extremely important. If it is too cold it will be relatively crumbly and short lived.
    3. Most asphalt cracks occur because the oil in the misture slowly evaporates and the remaining material becomes brittle Slurry coating every 5 years or so will help minimize this.
    4. Asphalt is held together the small "rocks" that are mixed with it. Here, these are sometimes referred to as "fines". These can be very large or quite small; but, regardless, you will want a mix that is similar to what you already have - not what the contractor may find convenient.
    5. The best tool for re-paving is your telephone. Ask all of the companies that you contact to give you a list of their last five clients - and call them.
    6. Your own track. Nearly too cool to contemplate!

I used to fly into Santiago and drive to Valparaiso city on business once a year for a number of years.
    How are you from Valparaiso?

Driving to the track is 1 hour from Santiago, and about 40 mins from Valparaiso. It`s very well located. And I`m serious about the invitation!
