    Default Hotels near Sonoma Raceway

    TrackHQers,

What hotels do you recommend near (or north of) Sonoma Raceway? I'm looking for something affordable, clean, and in a safe area.

Bonus if there's an El Pollo Loco within walking distance!

    Thanks in advance!

Once upon a time i would have recommended Inn Marin but their prices have climbed quite a bit in recent years. If you get a special etc, stay there.

Now i go into Petaluma and opt for one of those there. There are a few chains, but they are all noticeably nicer then the buttonwillow versions of their namesakes.

The best western in petaluma is right in the middle of town. Walking distance to markets and lots of restaurants.

The super 8 in petaluma is across the street from a shopping center with food and walking distance from Lagunitas brewing co.

Both of the above have parking lots that have accomodated my truck and trailer easily.

I stayed at I think was Best Western in Navato Oaks many years ago. Hotel was nice but my tow vehicle was broken into. I arrived late and the last parking spot was in a dark edge of the parking lot near the dumpster. Luckily they only took what they perceived was valuable and left things like extra brake pads, fluid and such next to my truck.

Inn Marin is a good choice. I've stayed there and at the America's Best Value Inn in Novato and the Days Inn Novato. Both are off the Atherton Ave. exit on Redwood Blvd.

The Days Inn has better parking and is well lighted. The Inn Marin would be tight if you had a trailer and the America's Best Value Inn also has less than stellar parking. It also seemed a little sketchy.

I don't know whether you're bringing a trailer. My preference, in order:

    Inn Marin
    Days Inn
    America's Best Value

Hotels in Vallejo are cheaper, but when I stayed there a number of years ago. I arrived at night, but when I woke up the next day, I discovered that not all Bay Area towns are nice.

Always Inn Marin because it's easy staggering distance from Maya Palenque, which is the best Mexican food around there. Great margaritas.
Peets coffee just across the freeway for morning brekkie.

Aside from their cost I never understood why people race them.

+1 for this. There are no bars within walking distance of the other two.

Also, just north of the Days Inn on Redwood Boulevard is an abandoned warehouse/office where Birkenstock used to be based, which is very cool because of its midcentury modern architecture. You can't drive onto the property, but it's a pretty neat to see it from the road. If you're into that sort of thing.

Bonus about Days Inn Novato is you can drive around it so no spending time having tp wiggle trailer in and out if you're dragging that along... sundown/sunrise go to the back of the property and watch blacktailed dear come down the hill to eat...
