Default Holy crap! (YouTube find) Supra bad wreck & fire- faulty safety gear

I've really been the Debbie Downer on the forum lately with these videos but figured it was pertinent here. Guy goes off fast and head first into a wall. Helmet strap, camlock and what looks like the seat mount all fail. Then, with injuries, he has to crawl out before the fire. YIKES! Looks like a broken rotor caused the crash. what kinda luck does this guy have...

I'm going see if I can get the Kanji translated.

I saw that he had boiled his fluids the turn prior, you could see he had trouble stopping the car. Watching in car of him struggling to get out makes me sick when the car was catching fire. When you feel your brakes going out or fluids boil....DONT keep going...go a a much slower pace 6/10ths and limp it back into the pits. DON'T be a hero and go one more lap...usually bad things happen when you do that. Live and race/track another day or session. Pay attention to the clues and hints the car is telling you. Looks like he fractured/broke a few bones. I am sure that cage, even though it doesn't look that great helped save his life.

I also wonder why they didn't red flag the session and immediately send fire rescue and ambulance to him when he first made contact with the barrier. Over 2 minutes before someone got to him.

You can see his helmet fly off in like .0000009 of a second on impact. No fear. They sent an old lady with a broom @ 6:28

If thatís a Cusco cage, 99.9% sure it is because of the color and a buddy of mine has the same one, itís an aluminum bolt in. It was hard to watch him sit there while the car caught fire but at least he wasnít more severely injured.

Only a trackhq'er could describe driving at 6/10th's after boiling your brake fluid as "limping"

You're safe as long as you do not exceed 100mph.

Miata drivers limp everywhere they go.

That looks like Okayama turn 4 (I think?), heaviest braking zone on the track.

    Edit: turn 5

my japanese sucks but Ill give it a go.

skipping to after the crash it says he couldnt get out the buckle so it took time and the seat lever was not right. Then it says he couldnt slide the seat back, the next caption is cut off from the youtube bar but the upper one is talking about the eyebolt position had bent or moved.

He needs help... "helmet was impossible" not sure what that means.. it says aseru which means to fade out.. I think he might be like passing out. Next cut it says after 2 mins fire started as he is getting out of the car, then the officials arrived. Guy calls on the radio there is a fire... response 30 seconds later, "OK!" just when he starts spraying the car.. I skipped to the end after that basically and the last screen he says he is sorry to individual staff but it is so things can improve and says thank you to them in the politest version.

How many trackHQer's have the seats bolted to the stock floors and eye bolts with big washers in the tin floor for the lapbelt anchors?

Thanks for your translation. My step-sister is Japanese. I will ask her if she can provide any additional translations.

Used to, now everything is tied to the cage. Mostly due to conversations I had with you Carl!

Awesome, good for you! This crash is pretty good evidence of the typical safety gear install. My pet peeve are subbelt and lapbelt anchors in the tin floor with big washers. once you loose those anchors the rest of the safety system goes downhill quickly.

Since it is a Crushco show bar, I wouldn't doubt they had the shoulder harness bolted to the floor.

So, my eye bolt mounts have the 4x4 1/8 plates welded into my floor (under the car) how safe is that considered?

By stock floors do you mean the sheet metal floor pan or the factory reenforced seat mounts? I can't imagine the factory seat mounts failing in a miata or most other cars. I'm betting someone will reply with a picture though.
