IMO, the new ZO6 is a big disappointment. Every video I've seen of this car on track makes it's acceleration (real life acceleration) appear slow for a 650 hp car. It basically doesn't seem to accelerate any faster than my C5 with 385 whp and this is backed up by trap speeds. So it's apparently not making much power on track and/or having a hard time getting the power to the pavement. And then it overheats even on cold winter days. The article says it's slow because of aero drag? Give me a break. They expect us to believe a 650 hp car can't overcome a small duck spoiler and 2" lip splitter? I mean we aren't going 200+ mph out there. We are only talking about 80-140 mph. I have full aero on my vette and it's basically negligible with respect to trap speeds vs. the same car with no aero.

The C5Z is a car that performs well beyond the sum of it's parts. Put some cup tires and decent shocks/bushings on a C5Z and it will turn the same lap time as the new C7Z. How is that even acceptable for a $100,000+ supercar with 15 years of technological improvements, sticky tires, and "stage 3 aero"? And why is it over a second slower than a car with less power and much more weight? Weak! GM, get back to work and make this car what it should be. I should not be able to make my $10k C5 (street car) faster around a road course than a C7Z with only a few thousand $ in bolt ons and some sticky tires.

It is a big fatty now that cannot overcome heat soak. Better hold on to my C6Z for a while longer.

Agree with Bill. I can't help thinking what the C6Z would do at WSIR on a cool day with OEM sized PS2's. Interesting that the C7Z overheated after a lap or two when the test was likely conducted in December. I predict S2K's on RC1's hassling C7Z's at about the 15 minute mark in red group in a few months.. with equal drivers.

Funny how the automotive press is going ape**** over the C7Z but all the guys who would actually buy one are asking , "gained 500lbs, crap cooling, slower than a GTR or Viper?"

do note that 1:27.10 is with winter weather before engine heat soaked......it might be lucky to break 1:30 in summer after a couple of laps.

It will still make more power, at idle, than a Miata.

The new vette seems like an engineering fail. How does a front engine car experience heat soak this badly? Something is wrong.

you never heard of RAM Air effect ? faster a Miata goes, more power it makes.
C7 z06 makes less power faster it goes, due to heat soak.
so there is a speed somewhere that both power crosses over ?

They should have listened to me and stuck with a NA 500hp car and focus on it being lighter, better tuning of chassis and suspension. Then again most of the people on corvette forum are asking for drag radials so maybe it'd bomb but hey, I'd buy one!

From what I read their budget for development was heavily slashed (they asked for 900m and got 250m) so they just put bigger parts everywhere and hoped for the best. Looking forward to keeping my C6Z for some time.

When people start tracking this thing in the summer time, the online community will be a bloodbath.

Is the RAM air effect the thing that happens when Crash Burgoon is following too closely and gently taps you into the dirt?

Here is my take on that.It is not heat soak all around, but the charge air temp skyrockets and engine protection program kicks in.Look at the diagram from C&D,obviously those temps are not normal, more probably the limit, but they are still very scary for a track people. 275F at the exit of the SC Another thing, the Z06 has a very small frontal area and probably the airflow is not enough to cool all the boiling fluids.

I can hope for the best, with my budget under 1m With 250m they should know where they are exactly and not rely on miracles.

Z06 needs WAY better cooling ducting. Maybe even drop 50hp might even help it out for long term and heatsoak issues.
