    Glad we agree on something, Rob. Happy Independence Day! This is a truly great country. When I was a kid, they taught us in school that it was a FREE country. Unfortunately, that's not true anymore. Now the country is run by big corporations and special interests that contribute unlimited amounts of money to both major political parties in order to keep the profits rolling in.

    Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
    America was founded on the principle of freedom of religion. One is free not to have any religion at all, of course, but that's certainly no better, more important, or "right" than having religion.

    Incorrect. America was founded by the Declaration of Independence, and then the Constitution. The Bill of Rights, as dear it is to me, was added later. Also, the way your statement is worded, it is as if that is the ONLY principle upon which the nation was founded.

    We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.
    While the Bill of Rights more definitively codified things, the historical record is quite clear that freedom of religion was part of those unalienable Rights.

    And the fact that freedom of religion was not only within the First Amendment, but was the first part of the First Amendment speaks to its importance.
