His results are anomalous. The oiling system in the Miata is quite robust and difficult to screw up. The cooling system on the other hand needs work for a quick driver in hot weather.

Aside from their cost I never understood why people race them.

I've never had a CEL in an M4 on track... Sounds like he's good at breaking things.

What big brand rental cars might make the list?
Maybe they need their own list of rental cars that can be driven at 9/10ths and still make it back to the counter with no obvious damage.

I guess most of new cars under 50k MSRP need some work to survive a track day except Camaro 1LE series, GT350.
Some need oil cooler and radiator; some need camber plate and wider tire or maybe better oiling system.
Now type r is overheating so new Honda still needs some cooling.

That is nuts. Cheaper than a one year old SS sedan which is half the car.

Edit: If you are willing to go to Texas, there is a
    2015 SS 1LE with 36k mi for... $23,795

Its official, a used SS 1LE is currently the best track car deal in North America

I really wish that car was more successful. Not sure why it wasn't. I would have loved one -a cheaper CTSV.

'15 should have a 5 year 100k mile powertrain warranty too. '16 and up have the 5 year 60k mile powertrain warranty. Aren't '15s still the bigger, heavier previous generation car?

Yeap. 17 1LE is the 6th gen and more desirable. Cheapest one (but with all the right options) I saw is $34k.

HPDE at Road Atlanta late last week. Didn't drive because I hurt myself earlier.

First session, lap 2 (first full green), a Hellcat flips on it's roof exiting T7.

The cornerworker recognized the driver and car for trying to drift that corner at other HPDEs. The driver exits the car, only superficial wounds on left arm, but wearing shorts and flip-flops. Event halted for 1 hour for cleanup and another drivers meeting. I can't share images, but the private meeting with this toolbag was as you would expect. No acknowledgement of drifitng, took no responsibility. Thankfully, most of the HPDE orgs in this area have moved to motorsportreg.com. His info is on there, so now he has a hidden blagflag on his account. It makes me angry that so many people come out to do these events, focus on safety and learning, then you have these morons who come to ruin it for them.

On the positive side, we were at our home track at Spring Mountain this weekend and the local (Las Vegas) Porsche Car Club was there and they ran a really great event - in fact one of the most drama-free HPDE events that I recall attending in years. Kudos to both the organizers and also the participants. It was a beautiful weekend with peak temps on both Sat and Sun around 73-75F!

The event had a very wide variety of entrants - GT3, GT4, E92 M3's, Mclaren 675, Fiesta STs, C7, C6, GT350, GT350R, etc. We were there this weekend to practice and get set-ups for the NASA Thunderhill race in two weeks. We had a guest there with us also and, like us, was running his NASA Spec Miata. I am reminded again and again, at these venues it is ALL driver. Of all the entrants (in the top 2 run groups) there may have only been 1 or 2 cars lapping faster than the Spec Miatas were. Despite that virtually all of the cars in these run groups had MUCH better straightaway acceleration, once again kudos for good driving and letting the Miatas inch by in these passing zones.

this last weekend at BRP with SV. in red group. fastest SM (probably 2:04s in 80sF weather) in the country would be slowest car in red group. I was doing 1:56s, and was gridded mid pack...... so it is all cars at SV
