Default FXMD and Billy's record-smashing 1:37.520 at Buttonwillow - InCar Video

    Here's the video:

    And here's the 1:58.994 I did in my full-interior "street-class"-spec NSX on NT05s:

    Enjoy.

Talking about yourself in the third person for the marketing win.

Car looked a handful on cold tires. Big understeer or power oversteer and teeny knife edge in between. And that bit of balance was easily upset by any bumps, of which there are plenty. I like the line changes you made in few spots when the car either under or over rotated on entry forcing you to think quick to save the exit, maintaining momentum or just settling the car so you could squirt to the next turn. It looks like a tuners nightmare trying to find mechanical grip with softer suspension while still supporting aero loads and a beat up club track.

Did you do the kink into Phl hill flat? I winced watching that. That had to be 130 or so.. on cold tires.

Aside from their cost I never understood why people race them.

Tires never got over 150*. The Kink is flat and my goal is for Riverside to be flat. Look at previous in-car videos. The car is world better in terms of rear grip, balance, and stability. Still has a way to go to optimize the current setup, but thankfully its not an aero loose deathtrap anymore.

Yah. Even from the videos it looks like it's responding to driver inputs much better and is more stable than in previous years. Still a serious handful though. Kudos for keeping on the track let alone setting a lap record with it!

I do not envy the guys doing the design and trackside suspension tuning of that beast. The demands of the track surface. aero loads, tire temps and all would make many significant compromises necessary without something like active suspension. That the guys are still working with OEM suspension geometry make sit even more challenging.

    Thanks

Just like anything else, setting the car up takes a lot of evaluation, educated guesses, testing, testing, and more testing. It's still far from perfect and we have a few big things to work on that will really improve the car even further. It's a true testament to the NSX's stock suspension's strength and design to handle this kind of abuse.

Is it just me or is BW starting to really fall apart?

It's crap. I recall driving it when it was about 3 yrs old. Fairly smooth, fully cured and rubbered in. Felt luxurious in comparison to Streets. Now it's even bumpier and more patched than streets. I'd vote it the worst track surface in Cali.

The FXMD NSx is near DTM levels of aero load/grip/power/weight. To get any of that down on that surface is a miracle.

I also couldn't help but notice how relaxed his hands are in the "street" video. Very busy, but very light - kind of a hybrid between a brain surgeon and a pickpocket.

    Billy -

Holy Crap!!! If you took a video of me driving BW-13 and put it on fast forward, it would look like your FXMD video. If I am lucky. Nice work . . .

I wanna see you drive that car at WSIR big track for another record.

    Billy -

Do you have the JDM gearing and LSD in your white street NSX? I am still suffering with the U.S. gearing in my '92 NSX. If you ran that street car lap with the super long U.S. gearing, I am even more impressed . . .

I do have the JDM gear stack and that is probably worth a second at BW since the US 2nd gear is miserably long.

Guys, you don`t know what real crap is, I DO Recently Bruno Senna raced in one of our tracks and commented "this is the worst track that i`ve seen in my life".

Congrats for the record Billy, nice driving.

    Thumbs up

    Billy,

For what its worth, since I last had a hand in the car I must say it has come a long way. It really smoothed out nice and looks as nice as it is fast. Congrats on the excellent lap time, the results cannot be denied!
