Default Ferrari vs. Lambo, do pedigree or racing matters ?

I've always pro-Ferrari (vs. Lambo), because of F1 racing. Always believed "race on Sunday, sell on Monday". Also loved Porsche, Mazda, etc.. because of racing.

but lately, everyone I talk to prefer Lambo.

say in a mall, when a Ferrari pulls in, I hear people say "nice Lambo"
high school kids can name off Lambo (vs. Ferrari) models, but not Ferrari.
at Cars and Coffee, people swarm around Lambo
at Exotic Racing, I asked them what's the take rate between 458 and Huracan. not even close, it is like 1:3. most exotic rentals now don't even bother with Ferrari.
old Lambo are going up in value. Ferrari used to be the gold standard, no more.

in 30 year, old Lambo gonna be worth more than Ferrari, when today's youngster can afford them. though Lambo has no real racing pedigree ?

I don't get Lambo at all...... kids tell me it is because rappers drive Lambo, not Ferrari.

I have very limited experience with exotics but the time I spent driving a 458 was pure bliss and made a v10 R8 seem pedestrian. The Lambos are more form over function so I can see where the newly wealthy look-at-me crowd could be drawn to that. Even if it was taken to the track I'm sure a Lamborghini is still plenty fun.

I've always been a Porsche fan even over Ferrari, might be my German heritage, but other than the GT-4 I'm not even interested in p-cars anymore. I will say that if I had exotic car money, I'd likely buy a Singer.

Lambo's are poster cars. Growing up, there were far more posters in my friends rooms of the lambo diablo then there were of the F40, 959 and mclaren f1. All 3 of those are cars that are more desirable from both a value, quality and car capability level. That's not going to change any time soon...

The average person doesn't know the first thing about racing or performance. Some are perfectly thrilled looking at a car, most of us here are only satisfied by actually driving the damn thing, at the limit.

Well - there is a Grand Canyon of difference between what kids think is cool/what rappers drive/what is popular at paid "Drive an Exotic!" events - and what the car provides to a driver-owner
who is interested in pedestrian aspects like chassis feel, feedback near the limits etc.

Its kind of like having a poster of (insert your adolescent hot babe name here) on your bedroom wall. Its one thing to have impure thoughts about her, know her measurements and like/dislikes -
and then we grow up and learn more about the realities and practicalities of hooking up with and living with a supermodel.

Everyone wants to live with a stripper girlfriend - until we actually have to live with a stripper girlfriend.

The Lambo is nice for a Volkswagen.

I've had an Achilles' heel for BMWs since I was a kid in the 80s. I had a scale model of this car (in this livery), along with an autographed Warsteiner DTM M3 poster.

Isn't the real point of supercars to drive something fast, powerful, loud, wild, wacky, and virtually out of this world?

I used to be all about performance and numbers. Heck, I went to school in Germany for a year. But as I got older I came to realize all these exotics are stupid fast for street cars, so what difference do the numbers make? It's the visceral feel, the sound, the smell, and the beauty.

Race cars are for going fast, supercars are for feeling fast

umm... you race a SRF, isn't that slower than some of tow vehicles around a track ?
X5M probably lap a lot faster than a SRF ?

90% of tow trucks / SUV can tow a SRF and out drag your SRF down 1/4 mile ?

    This is a good assessment.

Thanks to William I got to drive a couple different model Lambos, 458, GT3, Mercedes GT and R8. I thought the Lambos were pigs in handling and the R8 was not far behind. The 458 was blissful to drive. My order of preference of these supercars is:

    My Corvette ;-)
    458
    GT3
    Mercedes GT
    R8
    Lambo 1 (it sucked)
    Lambo 2 (it sucked, too)

Lambo is the ultimate poseur car often purchased by "new" money. Hence the rapper appeal.

disclaimer: I have owned 6 Ferraris

Response to original question. ABSOLUTELY. Ferraris are fantastic cars with a 70-year racing pedigree, up to this day in F1 (although I wish they still offered street cars with stick shifts and clutch pedals). Lambos are Clown Cars. 'nuf said.
