that flag worker running for cover was pretty intense, but I wonder how the wheel fell off of the civic. Sheared studs?

Makes me think twice about possibly installing a roll cage.

    William -

My Sheriff's hat's off to you. That's absolutely the best and friggin' funniest video I have ever seen. Every 10.5 minutes of it (and normally I won't watch a driving video more than 30 seconds). Perhaps the funniest thing is the crowds clapping and cheering as the cars roll.

There's a cultural difference here. Americans play basketball. Finns crash their cars on mountain roads.

I used to run my street Z06 on track and I ran pretty fast laps with it. Then I decided to put a four point cage in it along with a race seat and harness and I felt better about going as fast as I did.

Then I got the HANS device and the first 1/2 day I hated it. I thought it would kill me. The clinking of the fasteners and hitting the stops when turning my head (I probably turned my head too much to look in mirrors and back down track exiting turns) really distracted me. By that afternoon I was driving faster than ever by about 1/2 second. I am not sure if it was because I felt safer... I think it was more of the discipline of me being forced to look more ahead, use the center and side mirrors more and not look back so much. Who knows, I got a lot faster.

Then I got the car with the full cage and two fire systems. Both can be manually activated and one triggers with 155 degree cockpit temps. My seat and harnesses are even better and I have the two side nets. While track days and racing present certain risks, I feel so much better in my car. I get a low level of anxiety driving cars not fully caged or with only three point restraints. The comfort of that deep Cobra seat with halo restraints and all the other stuff is... well, comforting.

And of course I got even faster in the new car and it is not set-up much differently than my original Z06. It pretty much had T1 legal modifications. In fact that car had several modest mods my race car does not have like special VBP bushings, tie rod ends, underdrive pulley, etc.

    I will never go back.

Aside from their cost I never understood why people race them.
