    Default crash at Infineon.....

tell me what you guys think....

parties involved are friends for some of yours here...
camera car is a WERC regular, Krider Racing E2 Sentra.
blue Miata (on the right, who won E3) is a T25 teammate of mine.
I don't know the Mustang or the car that crashed (I might, but don't know who that is yet).

this was a 3 hours day/night enduro last weekend. Kitty (driven by Gordon, started close to last, and finished P2 in E3, congrat !!) was in this same race. I believe this was a restart after FCY ? in enduro, pit is closed during FCY.

Radio communication indicated the course was green and his hand was out the window. My guess is the Mustang driver didn't see the hand out the window.

There was one green lap in the race after the FCY. So I guess it needed to be a good one?

    Great job Gordon!

As I said on facebook, glad he didn't lose his hand.

Hand out the window could of been interpreted as a point by.
With window net. It is difficult to put the whole arm out and do the fist in the air thing

Good point. Glad nobody was hurt! I guess the best thing to do if you are exiting there is put your left wheels all the way to the edge of the track on the left and stay there. And hustle off the track, don't slow down too early.

Very true. I've offered point a by more than once that people couldn't see because of the net.

I don't know all the facts. A poor track design or lighting and design could effect visibility of both parties. My first thoughts is why would anyone think hand out the window at night could be seen? Second, IMO it is the responsibility of the guy who got hit to be predictable on track. If you are going to pit don't drift toward the pit. You gotta look for a clear track and get left and telegraph your exit. Third you don't exit a hot track like you are on a cool down lap so you don't become a danger to you or yourself. That could have ended much worst. What is the final verdict of the marshals?

jesus that could have been much much worse...

on a side note... how are you getting your radio comms into the video? separate recording device or recording via a split to the cam?

Never run Infineon and can't see much in the video in regards to the track but from the video it looks like the guy going into the pits was not where he should be to properly exit the track. Understand he was trying to determine if the pits were "open" but seems like he was the mostly cause.

Looked like bad luck the way traffic stacked, the first car kept the camera car from tracking left, then the Mustang and another faster car tried to split the camera car. Can't say I wouldn't have done the same thing.

Unless I am by myself I never take the apex in T10 on an in-lap, especially in mixed class racing. Hopefully this was a learning experience for everyone as that could have turned out a heck of a lot worse.

Many tracks I can think of.
WSIR - passing on left exiting T9 is important for that exit speed
BRP CCW - passing on the outside exiting off ramp
BRP CW - dive bomb on the inside entering Sunset
Laguna - dive bomb on the inside last corner before straight

I've gone 3 wide at Infineon at this exact same spot.

Also, it looks like there was confusion on whether passing was allowed or not. Cars further back probably got a clearer radio call of green and then had to pass cars that were still thinking yellow.

That is a cool setup. To me it looks like the team was trying to get too cute by dropping back under the caution to be able to pit as green comes out. You can't see any cars in front, but they are stacked up behind him. Course goes green Mustang got a fast run through 10 and did not see the gaggle of cars going slow. Tough to get back over to the right at high speed green flag conditions, not expecting the slower cars....

Would be great to see some footage from the cars behind. Could have been so much worse...

FYI about the radio to camera interface. You could also do this setup as well 2XR Kit
or just get a 3.5 male to (2) 3.5 female plug spliter. Plug the male it into your helmet mounted ear bud jack, then one female end goes to your ear buds as normal and the other female goes to your recording device. Might run $20 total?
