Default Crash footage from Streets Of Willow sunday. Cartwheeling off the back straight

From Sunday. Expand the movie and watch HD.

Pretty crazy. 5 cars in all were totaled that day in separate incidents. Thats just nuts.

    Be safe.

Holy crap! That is one of the most brutal crashes I have seen at a HPDE event in a while.

ExtremeSpeed, after the first 2 there was mandatory all drivers meeting then meetings for everyone after that. To be honest, im surprised there weren't more car to car contact incidents, there were a bunch of close calls throughout the day.

Its always seems to be the intermediate group that has the spectacular crashes.
Beginner seems to have a lot of spinning on corner exit that loop back on track and stall, advanced seems to have most offs on corner entry that go off into the dirt. It feels like its intermediate that has people flipping. The car that was out there before had a similar incident where he actually rolled, 3 sessions later this happened.

The other incedents were a driver went off at the top of the front straight (clockwise) and went down the embankment and into a retaining wall. Then there was a Lotus that was tore up missing wheels and leaking fluid (didn't see what happened) then there was an Rx7 that got tweaked after going off sideways at speed and jumping a berm.

The accident that was caught here was actually the guy pitted next to me. He said that he just 'lost control' and next thing he knew he was in a cloud of dust and didnt know what way was up he was alright though, just really bummed.

then he was charged $500 for the hay bale he hit that flipped him into the air, thats kinda ridiculous.

This doesn't surprise me that much.

I signed up for a weekend at Big Willow with Extreme Speed a few years ago.
After the first day, I was done for the weekend.

Very lax. Almost no driver's meetings. And inexperienced folks out there with way too much HP getting in over their heads.

Clockwise Chicane is one of the most dangerous corner in SOCAL. has been for many years now (especially after they repaved the section). that's why organizers been putting cones on the back straight to try to "guide" you through the correct line. did they do that this time ?
people try to go fast through it, but in reality, there is very little time lost if you go slow there, because you have to brake immediately after the Chicane for the off camber left.

??? no idea what you are referring to. do you know the driver ? is he okay ? I have no idea who that is, nor what car. I don't rent race cars, and your old car is not ready.

That's a bad scene. By the time a driver gets to intermediate, you would think he would have grasp of the risks involved and the consequences of driving over his head.

in defense of Extremespeed (only ran once in last 18 months), they attract younger crowds, so they would tend to have more crashes regardless.

Driver was OK, shaken up obviously, but ok. I was pitted next to him and his wife (gf?) as the dust was clearing it dawned on her that it was her man that just flipped. She was a wreck for a few min till it was obvious that he was out of the car and walking around. No harness, No airbags and no HANS if i remember correctly.

The chicane actually had more cones and bales than i've ever seen outside a SV event. I'm pretty certain the bales are the reason that he got airborn and also the reason the previous car flipped there too.

you can see the skidmarks from later in the day in this video I found just now start at 1:19 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cmI8pondW1E

Sorry William, "bet he was wishing he had rented a raced prepped race car".

My reference to the SM car was a question more than anything?

Happy he was unhurt for sure!

I have talked to Aaron at SV before on this matter. In short he says, "Beginners are too timid and drive well inside the vehicle performance envelope" so not too many problems. Advanced group the "drivers know the limits and mistakes are within a closer margin of error" so not too many problems. The intermediates he says don't know what they don't know and they are starting "to get a bit bolder and sometimes a bit full of themselves" regarding their driving ability. This is where most of the big problems occur. Those are not exact quotes from Aaron, but my summation of what I recall he told me after 10 years of 20+ track days per year.

Wrecking your car is trending with ExtremeSpeed. This is like the third time this year and we're not even at Summer!

Hard to imagine this kind of chaos at SoW! Glad they weren't running the big track with this group, you probably don't get to just walk around after you go off there with no harness + no airbag.
