    Default Coronado Speed Festival

The 2014 Coronado Speed Festival is quickly approaching. The dates are Sept 20-21, and the event is held at the military base on Coronado Island.

My wife and I attend at least 20-30 car events/yr, and this is always one of our favorites. Good weather, interesting military displays, nice people, free parking, test drives, open pits, awesome racing. It has it all.

This year I am excited to have an opportunity to drive in the event for the first time. I will have the white #7 Datsun 510. Stop in the pits and say hi.

Is that race an invitational? How can people race there?

yes, you have to send in an application by mid-July or something. HMSA has been the group running it for the last few years.

Be sure to try this event at least once.
A race track surrounded by awesome views...San Diego bay, Pt Loma and the downtown buildings.
Support Fleet Week and our Military, come out and enjoy the race on the base.

Our '88 IMSA GTO/Trans Am history Camaro was accepted.
Raised the car a little for the uneven surface, reduced the spur gear in the quick change to about 140mph.
It should get off the corners well, short track with lots of shifting, good fun.

Good job. Did you win? I was not certain if you caught everyone or not.

    thanks, got up to 6th.
    Qualified 2nd Saturday morning.
Saturday afternoon DNF while in 2nd, so stated last Sunday.
Ken Davis and team fixed it in time for the Sunday race.
    Ken came in 3rd.

    Saturday DNF on lap 5.
I thought it was a flat tire so pulled over.
Fire truck driver said tire was not flat.
"do you want to drive it back or have us tow it?"
My first thought was...for no reason did I just pull off the track while comfortably in 2nd?
So finding it was a suspension issue made me feel better. lol
Blame that one on the Coronado bumps.

^^^ passmenow -- nice work. I have gnat's attention span so I could only watch the first 2 minutes of your video, but you were obviously killing the field having to start last on the grid.

Driving at Coronado for the first time was a BLAST! I was in group 2 in a white 510.

First, a report for the Sheriff.

    I had a great time.

Next, for the rest of you.

I have never had such a great weekend finishing so far down in the pack (17 out of 24) LOL

    Highlights were:

    Great paddock neighbors

    Great weather

Talked to at least 500 people that I know

Friday night reception in the Vice Admirals backyard under the stars with carved roast beef and live swing music

Sunday night awards banquet on the USS Nimetz watching the sunset from the flight deck

Learning the track and getting faster every session

A 10 lap battle with an Alfa, and finally passing him with 1 lap left in the final race

    Low lights:

Trying to leave the base in the afternoon. 30 min to go 4 miles

    The track is BUMPY!

Sure hope I get to do it again!

Nice link Steve, I'll take the 5th, I was an innocent bystander.
Amazing how easily incidents can be reconstructed now that every one has a digital camera.
I enjoyed the C2 visits at the races.
Lets get a burger and beer soon.
