At least on my phone there isn't much info in the link. I believe this is the project that originally started in Santa Maria but has now moved closer to Santa Barbara. Last I saw there was no word on a road course, only drag strip, dirt oval and kart track.

Isn't that area to politically correct for this to happen?

Could be worse, that's probably a good fit for the region, although I'm worried about the dirt oval cannibalizing santa maria. They might want to drop that and stick with the drag strip and karts unless the santa maria track is going away.

Lompoc has a federal penitentiary, not sure there's much PC about the area other than the county it's in. Realistically it's a pretty good spot for something like this although I wish they would include an road course to class up the joint.

Seems like a road course would take a bunch more land, investment, and liability. It probably doesn't get more cost effective to do drag and dirt oval and karts. Maybe they will do something like firebird and make a mini road course out of the drag strip and return road

If the Santa Maria version of this project hadn't included a road course I wouldn't be so bummed. I never would have paid much attention to it anyway.

The Santa Barbara area has a great road racing history, it would be nice to have a track nearby again - not that I was around for the previous track.

This is really great news. It's amazing that California is so PC and green, and yet there are an amazing number of tracks south of Sacramento.

It won't happen- They tried to build a race track in Atwater (near a prison and Castle AF base) back in the early 2000's (New Riverside raceway- modeled after the original Riverside raceway down south.. The Tree Huggers and their lawyers stopped it.

I bet they could get past the treehuggers and saftey nazis if they just made the track electric only with groves down the tarmac for people sized slot cars. Autopia for big boys!
