    Default Chuckwalla track day

Speed Ventures has an upcoming event at Chuckwalla Nov 22-23. The current lack of sign-ups is amazing to me, with Sat showing 18 signed up (4 of which are my group) and Sunday only 10 !

Chuckwalla is indisputably the best So. Cal. race track 1 hour East of Indio that there is, and the weather in late Nov is usually spectacular.

Why the low car count? With Aaron at the helm, there is a good chance the event will even start on time

    6 things.

    1. RTA (season Finale) and Mitsufest is that weekend at ACS (closer)
    2. Its fricken far away. 3hrs from LA.
    3. No motel for 40 miles.
    4. No gas station for 40miles besides the overpriced one at the track.
    5. There are no garages or facilities. What are you gonna do for breakfast, lunch, dinner if you plan on doing the weekend?
    6. Its $180-190 a day + timing + $15 gate fee.

Assuming car still drives fine after SLB on Friday the 14th, I'll be in CVR for both days.

All tracks can be fun, but the logistics at this track are not good. If you are camping out at the track, they have about the best bathroom and shower facility at any track I have been to. If you are not staying at the track, you've got an hour drive to the motel. Last time there, I tried to buy ice from the food guy, who sent me of track to get it. I told him there were a hundred people who wanted to buy ice, and maybe he should consider selling it. His reply was that he had never thought about that.

Other than that, the track is probably better for motorcycles than cars. I get my RX-7 into 3rd gear, and that is where it stays for the whole race.

    problem with ice is:
    1. heavy
    2. even if he makes 200% profit, it is still only ~$3
    3. it is a perishable item. you don't sell it on the weekend. you are kinda in trouble. putting in freezer till next week ? electricity cost alone (I have a feeling they run on generator ?) would not cover it.
    4. takes up space - need a big freezer. which means $$$ initial investment.

Did someone mention it's far away? It costs me as much in fuel to get there and back as my entry fees for the weekend. Nice track though, hope to get back there someday.

one good thing about Chuckawalla is that it is a flat tow. no mountain to deal with. v6 tows just fine and fwy 10 is wide and straight as an arrow.

And the Palm Springs winds at whitewater are a joy to drive thru in a 34' motorhome pulling an enclosed trailer.

one of the nicknames for that track is "****walla raceway".

I agree with the bathroom/shower is awesome except at night. BUGS EVERYWHERE, can't even **** in peace because there is no doorway to the outside world that separates the bathroom and the paddock. So bugs are attracted to light and come and go as they please. Also the showers are really cold late at night or early in the morning. Takes like 3min to warm up.

You are able to rent 1 of 4 available trailers however. They do smell kinda.

There is a casino "Fantasy Springs Casino" on the way to the track or on the way from the track if you feel like gambling. I think it is in Indio, CA. I lost $150 there once...fml.

Been there too. From Lancaster out 138 to the 5 in the winter cold freezing temps and snow...I'd rather have wind.

I ran into a sand storm in in the Palm Springs area on my way home from CVR last spring, that wasn't much fun.

Ice is an investment that the track should consider. If it makes the hot track more hospitable, it might be worth incentivizing the vendor to offer it.

Dry ice would be an option if it wasn't for all the bombs that would be going off out in the weeds.

Hmmmmmm, I have a small chest freezer that will fit in the trailer. I could sell $2.95 20# bags of ice for $6.00. Damn rob, now you got me thinking and that hurts my brain this early in the morning!

Bunch of babies in here. Best track in SoCal.

#1 The track does sell ice.
#2 Magoo's up the street also sells ice

Both do on occasion sell out. I would stop at the Chiriaco Summit Chevron to fill your ice chest just in case, but I have not had a problem the last couple months I have gone to Chuckwalla.
