Default Chris Harris, Tiff Needell, Marino Franchitti testing the LaF, 918 & P1

    This is amazing.

My two favorite journalists of all time: Chris Harris & Tiff Needell, and another bald Brit and awesome guy who i've been hanging out with a lot recently: Marino Franchitti testing the 3 greatest supercars: LaF, P1, 918. You HAVE to watch this!

I watched it the other day and it was cool, if lacking in some of the finer driving details... clearly, they needed someone more rooted in sports car racing, say, Mustangs, to help them out

I liked watching Marino's natural instincts to keep the car in control vs letting it drift. He'd try to get it sideways for the camera but habitually catch it right away. Rinse and repeat.

Wish I knew the laptime the Ferrari test driver did vs Chris Harris.

Also, wouldn't it have been better to put the Ferrari and the P1 on the Trofeo R's vs the corsa's? Even in the Pirelli test that Chris harris did, the MPSC2 were faster than the Corsas. I'm imagine 900+ hp needs all the grip you can give it.

Great video. Love the slo-mo shots from behind with rubber flying everywhere.

There are only two kinds of men in the civilized world.

Those that get paid to drive fast cars fast, and those that dream about it.

James Hunt didn't die. He just went away and came back as Tiff Needell:

I like how Chris Harris insinuates these three cars have never came together for testing until now. What is journalistic integrity?

However, I appreciate his driving. He's very good. I very much appreciate the uninterrupted whole lap footage with data.

The 918 looked amazingly easy to drive, and I saw it put down 1.6 lat g's down at speed. At lower speeds it was putting down 1.2gs.
The La Ferrari looked like a handful. It was bouncy and reminded me of my aggressively sprung MR2. Its lat and long g's seemed lower that the Porsche.
The p1 looked somewhere inbetween the 918 and La Ferrari in terms of difficulty, but it was much better sprung for this track. It was putting down g's similar to the Porsche. The turbo whine annoys me.

I think I have to give it to the Ferrari. It has the fewest visible aerodynamic devices, no giant wing, unlike its competitors, and it seems the most raw. It might be the best looking of the bunch, but they are all excellent.

I think he said that was the first time all 3 have been together with support from all 3 factories. All others had privately owned cars in the comparisons.

I'm assuming that the 'ferrari was here two weeks ago' was likely the "new top gear" shoot that Clarkson was talking about recently...

I was assuming that they made sure the car has the absolute perfect alignment and tire pressure settings for the track.

Got to love Tiff, he was the only one to take a stand and pick one car.

This has got to be the first time in history that a La Ferrari (or any Ferrari) has been compare to an MR2.....

Really enjoyed that. Reminded me of being with my Dad, in the early days, and all the guys he hung out with at Riverside and WillowSprings. Clearly enjoying their work.

Ha. It was an unfavorable comparison too. I'm probably black listed now. Joke's on Ferrari though, I'll never be able to afford one.

I think they chose the Corsas to keep the cars close. Would have been cool if all 3 could run trefeo Rs but I don't think they make sizes for the 918 and I'd guess that would throw off the 918s calibrations.

One thing that is %100 certain from this video... I have to find a way to become an auto journalist.

Although it is not entirely to the point, they fit similar tires on all three, which I don't think any other "camparos" have done.

LaF & P1 had the same Corsas, then P1 ran the Trofeo Rs and went significantly faster, while the 918 had MPSC2s which should be comparable to the Trofeo R.

I'm with Tiff. The porsche seems to be the latest "monkey + evo = win" awd car to make journalists look good when they can't find apexes.

The McLaren looked to be by far the fastest (and lightest), but looks like the turbo lag would be obnoxious to deal with.

The Ferrari doesn't seem to have any faults other than maybe wasting weight and having a v12 because noise.

And, remember, you can't drive it to your namesake, Napa winery.
