Default Cell phone reception at racetracks

Since most of you travel not only to Socal tracks, but to Norcal tracks, and out of state tracks, what cell phone companies do you guys recommend? Which companies get the best reception at the tracks, and while traveling to and from those tracks? Verizon? At&t? Nextel? Tmobile? Sprint? Some other company?

So i need your input. Who are you with? What tracks do you get reception? At what tracks do you struggle? What do you recommend?

And no, im not Mike Devidson.

Reception is better at ACS and Buttonwillow than at WSIR. I have AT&T now but have had the same experience with other carriers such as Verizon.

off the top of my head with ATT.

    ACS = full 3g.
SM and Willow = crap 3g
buttonwillow = edge only, no 3g

actual cell phone reception fine at all of them.

Since I typically have to be online most days, this is a subject near and dear to my heart.

The short version is, for data, you want Verizon. The only track where 3G can be touchy on Verizon is Thunderhill. But there's good 1xRTT for Verizon and only semi-usable EDGE for AT&T. Even Reno-Fernley (bless its heart) got 3G on Verizon

The tracks where AT&T 3G works is:

    Portland
    Infineon
    Laguna Seca
    ACS

I actually use a Verizon MiFi router now because we routinely have 2-3 laptops sharing the connection. Sometimes just to check stuff if I don't have a laptop running I'll just fire it up and use my iPhone against its wifi. But again, I can justify the $60/month just for data because of my work.

ATT 3G works well at WSIR and at ACA
T-Mo 3G works well at ACS and is shaky at WSIR (a year ago it was GPRS, so I can't really complain)

    Verizon good to excellent at:
    BRP
    ACS
    SMMP
    Infineon
    MRLS
    Thunderhill

    almost nil:
SOW. West end of lot ok but east end is spotty.
    WSIR

3H data is often better than phone reception. SOW & WSIR have free Wi-Fi.

Aside from their cost I never understood why people race them.
But obviously I just dont get it. -fatbillybob

I have answered a call on the BMW car phone on the Roval. Reception was great everywhere except passing under the bridge.

ok, bringing this thread back after a 4 day weekend at WSIR with effectively a completely non functioning phone the entire time. Sprint was totally worthless there. Any T-Mobile, ATT, Verizon folks want to chime in on service improvements at tracks since I know its changed a bit in the last couple years?

My experience, which is vast as I am often at the racetrack with a non-functioning car, meaning I get to spend alot of time playing with my phone:

WSIR: AT&T questionable HSPA+, Verizon very slow 3G
BRP: AT&T some LTE but mostly questionable HSPA+, Verizon some LTE/mostly very slow 3G
ACS: AT&T LTE is good, Verizon LTE is good
Sonoma: AT&T LTE is good, Verizon LTE is good

It therefore pains me to recommend AT&T.

I think Verizon put up a new LTE tower at/near Thunderhill right before the 25 Hour.

AT&T was the same spotty service, but you could hit pockets of full signal HSPA+ in the paddock or from Senior's famous Watch Tower. Our RV was right in a no signal hole, so I had to jump on the Ruckus to go find signal sometimes.

From talking to the NASA guys, that tower was temperary or maybe I just assumed that.

I've had good LTE at BRP. I don't remember the service at ACS but my phone and data worked well and I'm on ATT

I got a really nice totally RELIABLE vette for sale that needs a faster driver. Ask Oli and the guys while they are fixing their cars I'm usually sleeping in my recliner.
