simple theory, just that a stopped wheel is more likely to catch on something rather than a spinning one which can carve or cut though it.. I understand the point of track safety you bring up but when in the moment was just trying not to roll.
You do know that op stands for "original poster" right? We're not talking about the Andie Griffith show here lol.

a geo metro with a 1300 cc bike engine (fast as hell)
That thing was the overall winner at last August's Arse Sweat Apalooza at Thunderhill, out of a field of 116 cars. I ran that race in the Swedish Olympic Bobsled Team Volvo 740 Wagon, which was built by Evil Genius Racing, took a 25 lap BS penalty because the Judges didn't believe it was a $500 car. I bet it cost more then the OP's car.

And yeah, I got the sense he didn't know what OP meant either.

nope, didn't get that. was def leaning towards Andy Griffith..

So with tires, if anyone still cares to help, I have a new set but was running these cause was figuring they were closest to their "prime" tread depth.. or is it just that they're old and dry out?

    Aight bro,

I got this. Im digging the flat black, its ballin, murdered out on a track, if they dont point by theyll just run off scurred. Methinks you gotsta listen to them hoes up in hurr, they tough but they is wise and shiet. This aint no Forza or somthin like that, these peeps be sayin you need to work on dem skills before you try to work around with flipping yo mad setup. As soon as I saw your post, ima like daaaaym someone throw this brotha a flame suit quick! He gonna gets roasted!

All of that aside, you are trying to do way too much at once. I think your mistake is you alter between seeking advice, being condescending and defensive and its not working for you. To think that no one has driven a front wheel drive car with an aggressive lsd is naive, especially on this forum. So that should clear that up, chillout, no one is on a high horse here. And everyone will make fun of you, we are all adults here, no need to get your panties in a bunch.

You said you built this car to "handle", but you do not even know your alignment or how off it is. First of all, start with a baseline, get your car back in to shape, set up a baseline alignment and start working from that. I think your driving is not up to par yet (but pretty good honestly!) to be making any drastic changes. Like to hear it or not, no point building the car up to go faster if you can't drive and lay down lap after lap within 0.2 seconds of eachother. You can use your data aquisition to good use here and see why that happened. Adding a big front wing is going to progressively increase your downforce at the front as your speed increases, and that was a fast corner that you went off on. You have a lot of grip at the front, not enough on the rear, and as soon as you lift off you can see the car initiates the moment to spin. Hindsight bias maybe, but you started countersteering about 0.5-1 second too late, after a certain point no amount of countersteer will help you. I drive a civic, I have a similar corner at my track, except with more off camber, raised curbing and an elevation change. Thats the only place I have ever spun on a roadcourse, it requires big speed, commitment and a disrespect of the walls nearby. I personally like to initiate a state of oversteer (tap the brakes, steer in SMOOTHLY) and quickly counter steer while getting on the gas as I hit the curbing, thereby stabilizing the car. Its fast, but takes practice and is the way to drive for a time trial but a bit spooky for longer sessions.

The input I was getting at the beginning, while still very helpful, was not coming from FWD drivers.. I was only implying that it was related to me turning in too early I think.. & w/motor spinning at 9k and at those faster speeds it was reacting quickly.. I'm sure you know then the "getting pulled around feeling" vs. how rear or AWDs handle..

as far as the alignment issue, this car is a shelf/bench/dust collector more than a race car. I wrote what seemed familiar from when I had set it up in the past.. Tracking cars isn't what I revolve my life around and I know my skills aren't all there.
But I did well at Horse Thief; fastest time of weekend with close to the lowest powered car.. So the thing works, it felt great there. But this track is much faster and I was very aware I was squirrelly. I just wanted input if it's probably just technique, or if loosening the sway bar or something may help. Nowhere did I ask "What settings should I use?" This is more of a "Does such and such cause the car to react a certain way?" But then we all just got off track...
Thanks for the constructive input by the way.
another note that may help you guys help me is that any turn that I lugged a taller gear rather than screaming the one down the car felt like it wanted to float.. sometimes felt faster, but traction was definitely less.

Crany are you a member of Delta Tau Chi? Did you not know the members here are "Ghey", all jokes aside the Sheriff gives all noobs hell the first time here. If you can get past the occasional heckling. There is a a lot of knowledge here, at least you haven't done a Astraist (a world renowned authority on driving from Israel) BTW that's a joke. Did your car's rear suspension bottom out when you went over the curb?

    Peace
If nothing happens and there is no one around why did it not happen?

Rear suspension no.. also I would barely consider that hitting the curb compared to what I had been doing that day. was practically launching it and it was taking it like a trophy truck, & bicycling around the corners all squirrelly.

    so my tires??
hard because of age or wear? been holding out on running new set for wet days or til these were toasted, which sounds like might be now... I know serious guys shave their brand new ones down, figured mine have wore to that "prime" depth..

It depends on when it was manufactured and how it was stored. Not so much to do with heat cycles. It has some effect but not a significant effect. Age and storage would be my #1 guess as to why the tire compound hardens.

I would think heat cycling has the biggest affect, but I'm not sure on these because some street R's are built to take alot of cycles. I do agree age is a huge factor though.

People shave their tread depth down to find the sweet spot and eliminate as much tread squirm as possible, but still leave a resonable amount of tread.

    Jim -

Don't worry about it. You have bigger fish to fry. What's happening with the T1 car for the 2012 racing season?
