Default In car 458 Italia at ACS Exotics track

Intel sponsored a promotional event with Exotics Racing at the Fontana event. Amongst the tech industry clients present there were a few racers, including yours truly.
Temps ranged from about 102° to about 106° for the last runs. All the cars were getting too hot. I got to drive a 997 Turbo S, 430 Scuderia and 458 Italia. The 458 was my favorite, no surprises there.

    997 Turbo S
Quiet. Good torque. A tiny bit of boost lag below about 4500 but not terrible. Good balance. You do still have to mind the weight in the rear. The 1.2 mile track has a fast chicane that's taken in the bottom of 4th at maybe 90mph. The 997 was never happy through there and needed to be over slowed and tip toed to keep from over rotating. It was overheating, ECU pulling timing and boost. Intercoolers probably heat soaked to death. Felt about 70hp shy of my Z06 when it's rated 60hp more. Still really fast but not the carrier launch I was expecting. Sonny tells me the Turbo S is a monster when it's cool. Having owned turbo cars, I know it's like night and day when the intercoolers are fed cool air. Brakes were mushy and I know that's not characteristic.

    430 Scuderia
****ing loud. I drove it on Sport mode because the instructor didn't trust me. So it would not allow any meaningful drive off the corners even if the rears were hooked up. Shifts were ridiculously slow, like 500ms. I hear it cracks them off much quicker in race mode.
Balance was great. Suspension was a bit too stiff for the surprisingly bumpy Exotics track. Probably just as fast as the Italia if it had been in race mode, albeit a tad harder to drive at the limit.

458 Italia. Ah, il mio amore. This car is everything you have read. Such lovely balance. Fingertip driving. Easily catchable even when it's fairly out of shape. Great balance trail braking and turn in, balance on throttle mid turn, rotates perfectly coming off and just hunkers down.
9000 rpm redline. I didn't want to get Sonny into trouble so I shifted just before 8 I think. Got a tiny bit of brake fade after a few hard laps but it still stopped and engaged ABS. I'm told I lowered the student lap record by about 2s on my 8th lap ever. The only lap faster is by .2s the manager, who might have a few hundred laps around the track and in about 20° less heat. Veni, velocitą, vici. I came, I drove someone else's Ferrari, I set the lap record. I credit the lap to my Magnum PI shirt.

Very awesome! Nothing better than enjoying "not your car." That would have been the highlight of my month.

LOL i can't stop laughing when i hear the instructor teach Emilio. I just find it too funny. LOL.

Emilio was probably thinking. "Leave me alone. I know what I'm doing." ROFL.

Yeah that's Sonny's voice. I expect the footage is intended to also be useable for promotional purposes, can be shown to interested potential customers, etc. so they played the parts of instructor/student.

Emilio raises the bar in the not-so-reasonably-priced track car honor roll.

Not having been there, this looks like it might be better than the infield.

    Is it?

It was surprisingly bumpy. It affects the line and braking. Lot technical than I thought.

More fun than the infield for sure. As William wrote, much bumpier than expected. Flowed nicely though with long sustained G's and multiple apex turns. I think we hit 120 or so.

Love the open face helmet, glasses and evil goatee. You look like a villian from Talledega Nights.
