    Default CA gas price spike

Anybody else notice the price spike at the pump? I just happened to be getting gas today right after the price jumped $.20 a gallon in a half hour according to the attendant. I did a little research and saw there allegedly is a shortages of special CA gas. I went home and got my tow vehicle and fuel jugs and filled them hoping to not have to pay an even higher price by next weekend.

I dropped a C note in the tank yesterday. $4.69 a gallon Thursday.

The refinery fire in Richmond a few weeks ago is having an effect. Or, if you watch Fox News, it's Obama's fault.

Sooo... from the article, there is no reason; other than speculation from investors. Nice! I love how this gas price market works!

Yep, and Eric drove it up further by buying his weekend gas now Can't say I blame him, but that's how it works.

I'm guessing the prices will settle down by next weekend, I sure hope so but I didn't want to risk even higher prices. That Hemi is thirsty.

The entire gas industry is just about the biggest rip off... price per barrel goes up, gas stations immediately raise their prices even though the gas in their tanks was paid at the lower rates.
When the economy took a dump gas companies posted record high profits...

another way to look at this...

How much of your annual spending is on gas? 3-7%? So some small fraction of your annual spending went up by ~5%...

Do you really feel the need to change your behavior or a major purchasing decision to compensate for this?

I thought a little more about this after the fact. Realistically the price difference won't change the cost of my weekend by that much. I needed to get the gas anyway, I just got it a week early so there's one more task taken care of.

That's how I think about it. complaining about a fuel price hike reminds me of politicians arguing about $1xx,xxx spending cuts fixing or breaking a budget valued in the trillions. As for people who commute 50+ miles a day, well, my sympathies regardless the price of gas.
