Default Buttonwillow off, chain link fence outside Phil's Hill

this popped up on FB, don't know the driver or the passenger
didn't realize how flat the area is.
isn't this the drainage area that's under 3 feet of water after rain storm ?

That's one area of the track I'm always scared to lose it at. The right side you run into that dumbass tower at the crest of phils hill and the left you have that.
    Do you understand?

wow, that sucks. Scary off. I had a brain fart in that section of track last time out and had a real pucker. I took a bad line through there thinking about phil hill or something and wagged the tail a few times. Something about that kink seems just inconsequential enough to ignore, but seriously scary if you mess it up.

That fence post looked like it could have come through the windshield like a spear. Pretty scary. Sketchy part of the track for sure when you are at speed.

More evidence of how important a HANS device is.

It doesn't even look like he was on the brakes when he went off.

It took him a while to get off the gas and on the brakes after he got in the dirt.

That's what it looked like. And, no attempt to correct the spin at all at any time. Damn. I'm shocked no necks broke from that impact with the ditch. Every time I ride passenger I'm glad I'm wearing a hybrid rage pro, and not a hans.

Pretty sure I've seen this vid here before. The passenger mentioned putting his hand out the window on the A pillar and hurting his hand on the fence IIRC. It did look like the driver stayed on the throttle for a long time after leaving the track.

Someone asked me to go to BRP this Friday and help with car setup and driving in a race prepped 550hp vette with passenger seat (fully caged, etc). I'm not going to ride shotgun. I'll drive and look at his video/data but that's it.

    That's what I was thinking.

Was the car an old Civic or CRX?

Buddy of mine hit that fence a couple years ago after going into a spin at the kink before Phil. Scary stuff. That fence is a ways away from the track!

Here is my closest call in that turn.
    watch from 1:45.

Brake ducting caught the axle then it rotated at like 100mph and ripped apart/severed the brakes lines/abs lines...and then i got no brakes and tire lock up.

Pictures of aftermath at the end.

Looks like he may have lifted off the gas mid-corner.

You beat me to it. I was gonna say the same thing. That video could be a commercial for HANS.

At least you managed to stop the car right away. The first guy looked like he just decided, "oh, I'm in the dirt, I might as well go rally-crossing . . ."
