    Default Button Turrible

So next weekend Thing 1 Racing will be competing in the annual LeMons race at Buttonwillow.

A car count of between 150 and 160 cars, plus predicted high temps of 103 degrees guarantee a good time will be had by all

Have fun, we did the LeMons at Sears a couple months ago, what a riot!
This team is looking for another driver for the Buttonwillow event, email Kiwi Steve in La Habra for details.

I'll be there in the Raized Crazy car for my first LeMans event. I somehow landed on a team of corvette drivers

Is there seriously 150 signed up for this? I can't imagine that many cars on track at a time.

There was 170+ on track at Sonoma couple months ago.
More passing in 30 minutes at LeMons than in a weekend of normal racing.
Hope to do another LeMons event soon.

Good luck - Lemons is a ton of fun! Alas we haven't driven our car in nearly two years and this weekend it goes to a new home.

Here's redtopz demonstrating how much respect is owed to a Mustang. It wasn't so much "divebombed" as "nuked from orbit". The best part is that the Mustang got blackflagged and Bill got away with it.

No black flag for that punt ???

I was pulled into the penalty box at Chuckwalla for supposedly hitting someone with my "left front fender". When I pulled into the penalty box the judge said "heck, you don't really even have a left front fender!" LOL

Holy Crap, that was an experience to remember!

Our team finished 13th out of 153 teams even with a driver that has never driven on a track before and a very cautious driver. I think our 22 gallon fuel cell was a huge benefit. There were some pretty funny teams out there like Nyan Cat car complete with music and 3 or 4 cheater cars that blew past everyone. The temperatures were pretty extreme at 107 both days but we luckily had cool shirts and discovered the unlocked air conditioned class room upstairs in the building. Our car was hovering on overheating both days so we were forced to short shift and stay in higher gears but it seemed like there was hardly a lap without a yellow or white flag and lots of traffic with 150 cars. I think I heard 80 something tows for the weekend.

It was stupid HOT! We went thorough 150 lbs of ice in 1 1/2 days

We started 37th and had worked our way up to 7th after 3 hours when our engine decided it wanted to puke all of it's oil out. I can't blame it honestly. I felt like doing that as well. Tarmac temps of 160!

In the good old days we would have had a first place car had we kept running. As b3d3g1 says above, 3-4 cars just blew on by us.

I have erased winning one of these races off of my bucket list. More money/energy than I am willing to spend on it.

What's the point of the "cheater cars?" I thought Lemons was for hilarious NASCAR style butt****ery on a road course? I want to drive it one of these days. How the hell do you find a car that runs for $500?

Since labor and safety gear are not counted in the dollar total, it makes sense to allow anyone to "claim" any car for $2K (or some other "reasonable" figure) - just to keep folks honest.

There's the judge aspect of Lemons events I have yet to fully understand. You don't have to actually get a car for $500, but you have to make them believe you could have. It's nearly impossible in California because of $1000 cash for clunkers but people probably bring ads from other states or try to prove they sold off pieces to get the value under 500. I luckily didn't have to do this because it was not my car and the particular car I drove is a "vintage lemons" car with documentation all the way back to the original destruction derby race at the altamont speedway.

I'd recommend buying a seat on a team for $600 or so if you want to try it out. They have a quite a few listings in their forums and it seems like people drop their prices if they don't get enough interest and the race is soon.
