    Default Auto Club Crash

I read on Jalopnik that a rare exotic BRZ and some other cheap tub made contact. Anybody know what happened? Everyone OK?

I saw the wheel that tow truck picked up. that was a nice HRE wheel.......

it had contact with Crawford BRZ.

rumor (2nd hand info, so just a rumor) is MP4 and a Ferrari were overtaking the BRZ. they split the BRZ, leading to contact...

I am not sure if that's the cause, but split to pass is always a bad idea in any HPDE or racing situation...passee have a tendency to move out of the way of the first passer he/her sees, and into the 2nd passer....

i read that the mp4 didn't correctly "rank" himself in advanced class and should have been in intermediate.

but i also read its the brz's fault and that the people there representing crawford acted like it was a full on race? lol

just what i read on facebook.

but at least everyone walked away safe

Look at the damage on the right side of the BRZ, and the left side of the McLaren. You can line up where the two cars contacted (and it was a fairly hard contact).
pucsicsal - The fastest unit of speed measurement is not the speed of light, it is the speed of flatout. Hence the BRZs limit.

^Going by that, it looks like the BRZ clipped the back of the Mclaren.

Looks like a case of ducky speed master syndrome.

One of the comments said that the MP4 was a loaner because the guy had crashed his at an earlier event. Man, I hope that isn't true.

Sucky things happen at track events, I'm happy everyone is physically unharmed.

Nothing new under the sun.The first edition McLaren was a loose cannon and had a high rate of writeoffs,as long as I remember more than 50% were junked thru the first few years.Even the BMW CEO at the time Berndt Pischetsrider looped one around a tree.
The new one is supposed to be much safer with all the lectronic nannies, but that may inspire overconfidence in not so experienced drivers.

The incident was in SV Red... although lately I've been seeing a lot of drivers in Red and Green who don't necessarily belong...

Looks like the crash occurred on the infield straight, which seems odd.

i don't know the driver. But I did see him, and the 458, running in a novice run group in the first session. I actually thought it strange when they pulled out in the red 2nd run group in front of me...2 laps before they did this. FWIW, I was catching them fast in a 160whp FR-S. I'm not looking for a pat on the back - just pointing out that with a decent driver, there is no way that should have been happening. If this had happened on the straight away, my camera would have caught it. I was approaching the turn 9 180 deg turn when he crashed right after the 10/11 straight.

Was it a Ferrari / McLaren split around the BRZ as William suggest?
