Could easily be. F1 used to hold non-points races all the time, and the sites I've looked at don't list those....

Oh god, I'm getting old. NO F1 Race at RIR in the 70's EVER! Testing yes, but no F1 races. Look for the book "Formula 1 In Camera" by Ranier Schlegelmiclch. You won't see any races at Riverside. Oh I wish there were a few there. Yes, in 1975 (for LBGP not Riverside) there was a F5000 race to qualify the track for F1 which raced there starting in 1976. Still no races at RIR at that time. There were few Pro races at RIR that I didn't see but none were F1 races. What are you guys drinking? Can I have some?

Still standing by what I know. This topic came up when talking to Crag Angel. He did explan it to me, as why it was never listed as RIR event. But it had to do with Politics, and RIR became the Long Beach track for the F5000 race/F1 warm up.

BIG LEAGUE RACING ON THE STREETS OF LONG BEACH
(By Gordon Rycroft and David Swarbrick)

"Pook shared his idea with Dan Gurney, one of the most successful and popular American drivers ever to participate in formula racing. Gurney, now the president of All American Racers, Inc. was overwhelmingly in support. The drawing boards were then passed to Les Richter, former All-Pro for the Los Angeles Rams and now president of Riverside International Raceway."

Trust me, I will find it!

I found the log book I had back when I was talking to Crag Angel. I have sent Email's to people I know were involved, including a few that were not there but are into the history of racing.
That way I can conferm what I have, and that it's not just a "beleive it or not""hear say" or a "Myth"

I wish I knew how to get some history on an old track at the Pomona Fairgrounds. In the parking lot of the Pomona NHRA dragstrip sits a great road course. In my S2000 it's a !:40 lap time and about 105mph top speed, so it's a decently long fast track. I heard it's originally an old SCCA course that hasn't been used by them in years. For several decades, parts of it were used by various law enforcement agencies for training. About 2 years ago the POC (Porsche Club of America) revamped it into a great course. Does anyone know it's history?

    Here's a recent video:

Just snoop around the net. It's out there. Check on the link to Tams site. There are a lot of pictures of Pomona.

His shifter is real notch, that's for sure. But he's actually pretty fast.

RIP.RIR....Riverside was a great and challenging track in a medium powered car....anything more than a 510. Turn 2 at the start of the Esses was one of the trickiest corners to drive fast...almost like turn 9 at willow, except if you messed it up you were chasing the rest of the Esses and holding your breath. Nothing at all like buttonwillow Esses. Nothing tricky about those.. In the early days of SoCal NASA they ran a couple of races at Pomona. Just my .o2 cents. I drove it mostly in an rx3 and a 2nd gen rx7

Yeah, this is not going to be easy.
I have sent out a few letters. 5 in fact. 2 came back saying they do not want to say anything bad about Les.
To me, I think it was "good business" doing what he did to solve a problem.

So I am waiting till I have a conformation. To tell my story

I've talked to a few diffrent people. They kind of remeber it. But no one is willing to go on record as saying it happened. A few people that I knew, know, have passed. Including Less.

John Morton will be at the Riveside Museum this month. So there is a possabillity I can talk to him. I tryed to contact him, but it seems he moved since I last had his address.

Mean while. Here's some footage I found digging around.
