Default Another reason for NO ANTIFREEZE in trackcars

While several trackHQ topics have got readers thinking about safety here is one more issue that I did not know about. We all know antifreeze in trackcars is not reccomended because it is so slippery and hard to clean up if spilled on track. No one wants to be the cause of a fellow driver sliding into a wall. But I found out today that 50%water and antifreeze will catch fire and burn! That is just one more reason to use water and water wetter in trackcars and leave the antifreeze for your streetcars.

“Antifreeze “It doesn’t seem logical for a water based chemical to be flammable.

Wow, I never would have guessed. Since I live in a warm area I might reduce the amount of antifreeze in all my cars - figuring out a safe level to actually prevent freezing of course.

This summary is current as of January 2014, and replaces the previous antifreeze alerts dated July 2010, August 2010, and April 5, 2011.
