Thumbs up Angeles Crest Highway Reopens

OK folks the rumors are true...

The Angeles Crest Hwy above LaCanada has finally reopened.

It is a beautiful thing, with a fresh roadway surface, new signs, markings, guard rails and a few new features. These include several new small bridge sections, concrete raised embankments on the shoulder and all new, widened and fully paved pull outs and scenic vista points.

The area of the two big wash outs has some very impressive slope / grade work and fresh new (huge) run off channels and basins.
I will go back with more time and take a closer look at these areas, as the work is amazing.

Hmmm. Nice drive got to try it.
If nothing happens and there is no one around why did it not happen?

we used to go on drives from La Canada to Lake Arrowhead, then down the mountain on the 30 back to the 215/210fwy. Its a nice stretch of tarmac.

I saw this on the news and will have to drive it a few times before it inevitably closes following another 'rough' California winter.

It been nearly a decade since I've been up there. Aren't there a lot of cops there?

This weekend was crazy for law enforcement... I counted 10 different vehicles on a simple 15 mile trip a little past the Palmdale turnoff. I've learned in the past when there is that many officers out there they are pulling everyone over just to make a point. If your car or bike has any mods I'd be wary of a trip there for a couple of weekends. My last BS ticket up there was "No rear reflector" on my motorcycle.

Thanks for the info. Looks like I'll be waiting a few weeks before I go up.

Angeles Crest needs to be shut down several times a year for some legitimate hillclimb races Until that happens, there's no point to go there unless you want to see some scenery and get a ticket...

There's better roads on that mountain range:

+1 There was another motorcycle death a few weeks back. Crest is nice but you just never know.
