Looks like GM got serious about downforce. That rear spoiler is huge. With the huge jump in power over the C6 Z06, I guess they can afford to add some drag.. and probably need to to keep it from going to much past 200mph.

Aside from their cost I never understood why people race them.
But obviously I just dont get it. -fatbillybob

I want one. NOW! This thing looks like a beast with impressive specs. 100lbs can easily be removed (spare, tools, jack, carpet, pass seat). This should slaughter all the current cars on track. Probably beat the Porsche GT3 Cup Cars, and GTRs. I don't think anything can touch it.

Who wants to try to tame this 620hp+/630+ beast with traction control off off. Even the tires got alot wider. Jebus. What is the curb weight? 3250?

THe C6 Z06 actually weighs 3130lbs. C7 Z06 was said to weigh 100lbs lighter? So maybe with all the extra bits of downforce and other things.. Probably close to 3080lbs curb weight? And if you actually gut it, take out a good 280lbs. 2800lbs in race trim!!!! OMG!!

My biggest concern with any DCT/fancy automatic transmission is how easily it can be modified for holding higher RPM for upshifts.

When I bought my Mini Cooper, my knees couldn't handle a clutch pedal, so I went with the paddle-shift 6-speed auto.
It worked great, but my only complaint was the separate ECU for the transmission that forced upshifts at a relatively low RPM.

Couple that with aftermarket cams, and I was loosing a good 10-15 HP off the top, since nobody at the time had looked into cracking the transmission ECU to over-ride the upshift RPM.

That being said, it was rather nice to be able to paddle down into the gear I wanted going into the corners...

These days, my knees/ankles can handle a clutch pedal again (thankfully)...

I bet we are all disappointed on the actual weight. I bet it is heavier. It seems like all the new cars keep getting heavier, not lighter. I am not believing the 100 lbs lighter predictions.

They were probably able to lightened the chassis and suspension by 100 lbs and then added more than 100 lbs in safety and entertainment equipment

Sadly the gold chains and weight of the chest hairs are never included in dry weight. Below is the standard Vette trim, not sure what the Z07 weight ballast will be like:

The chassis itself looks extremely minimal, compared to a traditional unibody that is. I found this cutaway picture:

This thing has to be 65% nose heavy. Just look at the engine bay.

The engine is mostly behind the front wheels axis,so no nose heavy here.

Also the fuel tank is in front of the rear axle, so all the weight is between the wheels (as with the C5 and C6). Should be fast.

The transmission is in the back, too.

I bet that engine does not weigh too much more than an Evo/STi engine.
