I wonder what the penalty would be for asking the team to order the other driver to stop chasing 2nd position and slow down to disrupt the driver in front of me so I can overtake him

Is there anything illegal about that?

That race was right up there with Buttons Canadian GP a few years ago. Wow. Races like this make up for some of the parades that have took place in the past. It is amazing what a track that has some stiff penalties for driver error can do to make a race interesting for both racers and fans. I loved the slow mo of Hamilton playing catch and release with the car and brushing the banners with his rear wheel. That is f'ing car control.

Most probably it is perfectly legal to be a d-bag. On a moral plane though..............

    Points update:

Started sorting by dropped score on accident but I decided to go with it.

When the safery car was out & Bottas fell behind due to the incident. Hamilton did ask on the radio if it would help Bottas to catch up by driving slower.

Am I the only one who thinks its bizarre that they restart at the leaders discretion and not a light or flag?

Not defending Vettel for his actions after the initial contact (I firmly believe a race ban or DQ from Baku results would have been/is in order), but it seems like a restart procedure that gives a huge advantage to one driver and creates a sense of urgency and tension for all the other drivers is at least partially to blame when cars collide trying to anticipate the leaders actions.

That said I'm not sure if a restart procedure could be put in place that doesn't put someone at a disadvantage, but there has to be a better way to do it.

Yeah, I agree. The F1 restart procedure seems unique and odd.

The more I think about the penalty to Vettel, the more I think it should have been suspension from the next race. Immediate DQ is also warranted, but suspension from the next race is the most important aspect with regard to setting a precedent.

You just can't set up a penalty precedent that would not dissuade a disgruntled driver who is out of the points from spearing another car. Even backmarkers would think twice before throwing away the NEXT race.
