In addition to weight savings, hp/lb "equity" with prior models, and curtailing boost frenzy, the lack of turbocharging should be a big factor in keeping the sticker down.

I'm hoping for a slightly higher output Skyactiv-G 2.0. 165bhp would give it around 135whp which at the 2300lbs it is expected to weigh, would make it by the fastest Miata ever produced by a small margin. Assuming a 200lb driver, that puts an FRS around 17.5 lbs/hp and the ND at around 18.5lbs/hp.
In the natural order of things, those are figures I can see Mazda actually doing.

Aside from their cost I never understood why people race them.
But obviously I just dont get it. -fatbillybob

I was hoping for 200 whp, anything less would be hard to justify a higher price.
If nothing happens and there is no one around why did it not happen?

No way Mazda is going to put 200hp into a 2300lb car. It would be nice but ah, not gonna happen.

Why not? Chevy is putting 650 bhp in the 3,524 lb. C7 Z06, for a weight-to-power ratio of 5.42 lbs./bhp. A 2,300 lb. Miata with 200 bhp would have a paltry 11.50 lb./bhp weight-to-power ratio, or more than double (more being bad here, like scores in golf) the Z06's weight-to-power ratio. For once, American cars win out!

On the other hand, a 200 bhp ND would have almost the same exact weight-to-power ratio as my 2006 Evo IX of 11.48 lbs./bhp, which a damn fast car.

What we want here is for mazda to say they are putting in 200hp. This means the car will actually ship with about 180 crank horsepower and about 150 wheel horsepower.

I say it will have 184hp. It will still need some form of forced induction to accelerate faster than pie.
