I am very pleased to be wrong. I was expecting 2450 lbs or more. Good job Mazda!

It was advertised as 200 lbs lighter than it's predecessor and it is not. And we still have to wait someone to weight an actual car with a few gallons gas, full windshield washer tank, spare tire, etc. I still keep my bet that the actual car will be over 2400 lbs.
Anyhow, this model will be nothing like the first 2 generations. It will be hardly customizeable and hardly affordable. But that is the way of all iconic models of the late 20th century so not much surprise here.

Not only that it is lighter than the NC (easy..), it's lighter than the NB.
With all the improvements put into it, this one should really be the best Miata yet.

That any manufacturer is selling cars in the USA that weigh 2,3XX lbs. is to be commended . . .

    Seriously.
Just look at the Alfa 4C weights if you want to see what US regs do to weight.

I hope so, but dont forget, these are numbers not verified by an independent person yet.
And yes, the cars here in the US get so much heavy and that is not only because of the safety regulations.

Right, and the Miata uses no exotic materials, unlike the 4c, which has a carbon fiber tub. Now that I think about it, the specs we're celebrating come from a video game that can be described as an arcade-sim, which is being a bit generous. I'm cautiously optimistic at this time.

Looking at the numbers doesn't this car essentially have the same power to weight ratio as the NC. It would have been more exciting if it had more than 155hp. Unless the USspec cars show up with a magical extra 20 HP this car is somewhat slow. If my NC weighted 200lbs less I would have probably kept it longer. For me a decrease in horsepower from the NC is a deal breaker.

And that's the big problem. Does a car need to be faster than the last one to be an awesome car? I think the answer is no, but unless the car turns cool, it probably needed to be to sell well enough.

If the weight is in fact true it will turn faster laps than any previous Miata - stock for stock. Lighter weight means faster entry and mid corner speeds.

    All in good fun.

Truth be told, I would love to straight up trade my 2008 350Z for a blue book equivalent Miata. I am just to inert to go through with it.

Also some of my best friends are gay . . .
