dont really talk about this stuff on public forums anymore. Sorry for that. I used to love talking about aero and helping people out, hard lesson learned though.

I despise FWINGS as well. With Suzukis car last year we wanted to see what we could do without them, I think we showed that we have superior aero performance even with the rest of the field having them. We nearly won ..2nd by a tiny fraction as total underdogs in every way.

With the Nemo thing, the regs changed in a way that specifically went after Nemos aero but wanted all the other competitors to run unchanged. So the front wings were spelled out by name as able to violate dimensional limitations. That made the pro class a front wing class from then on it was an eventuality that everyone had shovel noses.

This year with Suzuki's car, the whole field has way more budget, tube chassis cars, less weight and more power than us. We couldnt leave anything on the table anymore. I am still somewhat optimistic we have a fighting chance though, but I doubt it after this year unless we rebuild tubular as well. I doubt the budget is there for it.

People dont realize but most of the aeros in this field came from F1. Its not just some guys taking a guess at stuff. It may look crude, especially Nemos stuff (keep in mind that was designed way back in 2010 and would still be competitive now)... but its mega downforce. Its a lot harder to make downforce on these things than a formula or prototype. People dont realize that.

Thanks for chiming in with what input you can share Andrew. The FWing stuff just seems a logical progression given the ruleset, but I think that even without the rules quite so explicitly urging the Pro Class towards that sort of nose design, it would still (unfortunately and rather unimaginatively) evolve in that direction.

At this point, how many cars competing in WTAC do you have some level of involvement in, even if minor?

I believe I could have done more with a simply wider car, even slightly. I have developed more on the side of advanced diffusers and I prefer it for reasons of efficiency and elegance when you are talking about a prod based car. The regulations limit the width of "car" but then exclude front wings to get a freebie 300mm width per side beyond the body work. In my mind, that pretty much spells out that you will either have front wings or you are giving up downforce to people that do. I think maybe something like ten cars but many of them are not competing this year as they are still in build. Most of them are small budget privateers. The two big name cars would be the Scorch S15 and Lyfe.

I wonder if this will be the last year a true Uni-body takes the title? Tilton or Suzuki?

The MCA hammer head car is reported to be right at minimum weight which is 840kg iirc? 1848lbs? Are there different minimum weights based on drive train?

Seems like MCA and the RP968 are basically tube chassis cars with the floor board, frame rails, shock towers, firewall piece mealed on with a carbon shell stuck on top?

They would be under weight with ballast. Yes basically mostly tube frame at this point with OEM chassis sort of "along for the ride". I think that was an eventuality once they removed the "no tube chassis" reg in 2010. It may already be too late for a unibody win, we are doing our best to hold on though. Scorch I think would struggle with budget for a ground up rebuild at this point.

Good luck Andrew. I was practically jumping up and down watching the live stream last year when Suzuki came around the last corner. He is the peoples champ, and I relate with him on many levels.

Are you bringing your Eclipse out this year?

Nothing on the eclipse. We lost our Yokohama sponsorship, and understandably so with three years on end that the car was not performing nearly how it should. Thats a very significant cost in the budget for a single event and the reg changes hurt us a lot we are held at 1050kg while cars like might mouse at 700. I think we might have had a shot in years past if we had our act together but that window has probably passed.

I am still enjoying the car though, found a super rare ex WRC holinger gearbox for a song and continue building the car just to be a nice and fun car.

Wow. Just amazing. These cars are on another level. I'm surprised by how much oversteer there is at high speeds.

Pretty tight field. Nice to see Lyfe on track and representing the U.S. Aero package looks great!

I think they have a good shot at a top 5 finish for sure.

How many other pro teams are running nitrous except for SVA? Should make for an interesting Super Lap Shootout.

Garth Walden with a downright beautiful lap just now. Wow. First ever under 1:24

update: and in the interview on pit lane he said they haven't turned the wick up fully yet. They have more to go for the superlap.

That was a beautiful lap, at was the top lap by SVG in the MCA car and Sigsworth's Pro Am winning time.
This year's event was a bit of a **** show though.. Too many good laps cancelled by Red flags, too much "saving it for later" that never came.
Some bad luck by top competitors too.
Suzuki going through 3 engines in 3 days?
Lyfe eating up their engine before posting a single timed lap?
SVA's car going up in flames?

Man, when those cars don't have full aero load, they're bouncing all over the place.

The PR Tech 968 is surprisingly fast for being a first-timer, but I'm glad Scorch managed a third despite their engine destruction.

All of these failures of turbocharged engines with professional tuning/builds further cement my choice of an NA V8 for my time attack build. Also, WTAC has lit a fire under my ass and I'm revamping the garage to handle getting my S13 back on the damn track.

I don't doubt that WTAC hits each year and the following week thousands of garages around the world get tidied up and project cars get dusted off

It seems to me that Lyfe and PR both made "first timer" errors. Lyfe with no back-up motor (though I heard something about they had one but weren't allowed to bring it, wtf?), whereas Suzuki who is a veteran of this event brought two spares! Just a damn shame that he went through them all. PR's mistake was to sit out the final session and save it for the superlap, whereas the veterans all went out every session they could because they know you can't bank on the next session being better. PR's performance considering how fresh the car is was awesome in its own right, that's not the last we see of that car I have no doubt.
