At the level of competition in the US, nearly 100% of all competitors' aero work is an amateur effort, some are better than others.
Have everyone doing a full CFD modeling work, build the result of what's shown on the screen and test it in a wind tunnel and I can assure you that your aero budget just had to increase MANY times over.
This is not going to be any cheaper than the raciest race engine..
Billy's car benefits from professional aero and the result is total domination.

But, I agree. Aero work gets quite expensive. There isn't any "inexpensive" part of this sport if one wants to become competitive in any class and in any series. This remains true even if the cars remain stock or spec. Because you always have "that guy" toying with the stock engine, shaving gaskets and what not, because winning is more important than fair play.

Good point Moti, I was ignoring CFD modeling and Wind Tunnel Testing. If you factor in both of those design validation methods, aero can be just as or if not more expensive than heavy engine mods. I'm speaking more from personal experience I suppose. My mind is still at Home Depot apparently...

We just purchased some linear pots, and I'm looking forward to analyzing the data. It's going to be a bit of a learning curve I must admit.

Yeahhh it's not exactly the most well-conceived aero package.

On a brighter note, Kinetic Sim has done some nice work for the 3Rotor team:

WTAC is today's Group B rally- ridiculously over-the-top and the world is the better for its existence.

My favorite TA car of all time. Less than two tenth's off the current record with half the hp... Too bad it got banned.

They don't have a class for the Prickly Cactus. They only race those in the southwest US.....

That car looks like a cactus!

IIRC it was a part of the chassis that was cut out which was legal at the time and was made illegal later.

That's harsh. It's amazing people still even want to win these things in an age where your reward is an illegal car next season.

You must've not watched enough top level racing, where the rules can change from one weekend to the next.

Do spoilers work in conjunction with a wing?

That ugly monstrosity looks like it was made in the garage with sheet aluminum. I have no idea how sound it's aerodynamic execution is. I think someone claimed it was or is the fastest, which probably validates at least some of its execution.
But, placing a spoiler under a wing contradicts something I thought I knew about wing effectiveness. Thus my begging for discussion. Clearly, I have much more to learn, which is immediately evident anytime anyone looks at my car.

That's why my car is a track car first and a time attack car second. If something I do to improve the car is outlawed, I have no problem with not getting a trophy and a podium place but progressing the car.

I say that, but it's really a cop-out that keeps me feeling ok about not spending as much time in development as I should.

I deleted what I wrote here because I actually don't know about the Nemo car, but I'd imagine that the spoiler acts like a less-efficient additional element to the wing. I feel like we also need an "aero of WTAC" thread.

my simplified take on the spoiler:
smooth out and speed up air under the wing to lower the pressure under the wing.
