Default 2015 SuperMiata Race Weekend #1, at BRP. Vette driver won !!!

    2015 SuperMiata Race Weekend #1.

most important thing you need to know about this weekend: Vette drivers really are better than rest of us. Bill (Redtopz) won a race on his first Miata weekend...........Emilio also own a Vette

    P1:
    Race 1: Emilio
    Race 2: Emilio
    Race 3: Bill (Redtopz)
    Race 4: Emilio

BBQ - main event. that's why we race SuperMiata. There were a lot of magarita, wine, imported beer, Rib, Bugogi (Korean meat), fire pit......pictures will tell the story.

We had a new kid joining us, Will. He claims he is a Spec Miata driver (I don't believe him, as he didn't have any contact this weekend)...........very good driver, came close to winning, but since he doesn't own a Vette, he can't possibly be that good

Race #3... last corner of last lap:

Emilio and Will fighting for lead. followed by Bill, then William (me). Emilio and Will both went off at Sunset (no contact though) into dirt. this is where it gets confusing.

Bill and William in hot pursuit, sling shot out of Sunset at full speed. But Will kept his foot in it in the dirt (damn Spec Pinata driver)...........Will rejoined the track, still ahead of both Bill and William, But Bill and William has the speed advantage....Bill ended up crossing start/finish by less than 1/2 car length over Will. With William immediately behind for the last podium spot. Podium finish was Bill, Will, William .

    (just re-read the last paragraph....very confusing )

To go with the photo of me above, I just put a brisket in the slow cooker.

That was a great weekend. I had a ton of work to do to my car after not being driven for 10 months but it worked well.

put the slow cooker inside your trailer.....so we can use it at next BBQ.

you did well for being away from the track. 2:04 isn't shabby considering you were running on year old 205, whereas everybody else were on sticker 225 (first race of the season, 225 being the new spec tire)

btw: other than 1st race of the weekend is determined by qualifying. 2nd, 3rd and 4th races are all reverse grid. so it is just that more impressive to win.
you win race 1, you gotta start last in race 2. which means you have to pass EVERYBODY in a short 5-6 lap race (SPM races are all short formatted).

8 pictures of BBQ, one of pre-grid, one in pits, none of cars racing. This shows you where our priorities lie

Can't argue with your priorities, but as someone who wasn't there, can you please post some footage? like, of the races? Had to have more action than the Daytona 24.

I had a great battle with him on Saturday and ended up passing him I think in the sweeper and holding on to beat him. Damn gopro was full on Sat so no footage. I started 5th, bogged my first standing start, went to last and re-passed back to 5th by the end. It was a really fun race. Will is 20 years old but definitely looks like a teenager to me. He's quick and was battling Emilio for the win on Sunday.

Agreed, clean, good judgement and car control. very aggressive and fought back hard when I passed him in the esses. Made all the same decisions and executed as I would have so he will be a tough competitor.
Very gracious for a young guy. Thanked us for putting it together, said the racing was a lot of fun.

I had a blast in Supermiata this weekend! I didn't really know what to expect out of the car, but it's better than I imagined (quicker and better handling). Lots of good things about supermiata and very well thought out. I wasn't sure about the inverted grids and splitting the races in half or the standing starts. All new things to me. But I really enjoyed every aspect of it. It's a great way to race to keep everyone in the mix. The tires are also great for this series because they last a long time and have consistent grip. The cars are even so it's all about driving and racecraft. Really fun! The BBQ is great also. I can't say enough good things. I still have some learning to do in the miata, but in general it was just like our ST2 and T1 racing, close and competitive.

I was talking with Jim Tway yesterday about how we could maybe do inverted grids or standing starts with NASA, but it's just not feasible. When you have contingencies people care more about winning. I love the fact that Supermiata is just about grassroots racing just for the competition and fun of it. No egos, no trophies, no contingencies. Just hard racing and good times and then beer. Even with the contingencies, we have a similar thing with our T1/ST2 guys and that's what makes it fun.

I saw him hanging out with CJ Wilson so I was wondering if he was one of CJ's pro miata racers.

Awesome! Sounds really fun. I have done inverted grids with AROSC and they are fun. 949 has super miatas to rent right? My vette leaves for around the country tour and will not be back until November so I'm racecarless.
