Default 2015 Chevy Corvette Z06: 650 hp, 650 lb-ft, Most Powerful GM Ever

    Should I buy one?

    2015 Chevy Corvette Z06: 650 hp, 650 lb-ft, Most Powerful GM Ever

Creating all of that power is a 6.2-liter LT4 supercharged V-8 engine, officially certified at the dual 650 mark. Peak power comes at 6,400 rpm, while peak torque arrives at just 3,600 rpm. While the horsepower curve looks like a financial analyst’s dream—always up and to the right—the torque curve is a much flatter, rising from 457 pound-feet to its peak, then gently descending back again as the engine’s RPMs range from idle to redline. Over 90 percent of peak torque (592 pound-feet) is available from 2,500 rpm to 5,400 rpm.

Conventional wisdom says year 2 is typically a "safer" bet.

But, there's always the warranty; and the earlier purchase gives you one extra year of driving the beast - which is the point of it all.

That is called a Corvette. If you put that much torque in a Miata chassis the first time you jump hard on the throttle you will have a pretzliata.

Yeah, I'm going to buy one and then spend another $30k on pumping up the power with pulleys, exhaust, tunes. Add some aftermarket seats/harnesses, full data acq., 2 sets of wheels with pirelli slicks, and go out and kill the competition at hpde events. Red group here I come. No way will those miatas catch me this time!

I might even get past the ghastly exterior styling and buy one. You can't see it from the driver's seat . . .

It's definitely going to be a bad ass car. If I was in the market for a super car, this would be my choice by a long shot.

    Two simple questions:

    A) Do you want it?
    B) Can you afford it?

Assuming I know the answers to questions A and B, why wouldn't you?

I want it and I can afford it, but I'm not going to get one. Why?

    a) I'm cheap
    b) It's too fast for the street and I don't need tickets. I'm not really into the show and shine waxer club thing.
    c) I don't need every wanna be street racer throwing revs at me every time I'm in the car
    d) I don't need any more evidence of my mid-life crisis compensating for something image
    e) I'm cheap

But I think Oli should get one .

Why do i get the feeling that a cranky old man will drive these cars at the track in red group, and then complain about a miata blocking and not letting them pass. :P

I will try and not complain about the Miatas not letting me pass, unless it is Emilio following too closely.

But i am going to get Mad 22" wheels, headers and a big brake kit he will never be able to get close to me.

Funny you should mention that... I'm looking into solar for the house and saw that pge has a special rate plan for EV owners that would save me another 35% on power. That plus the tax credits results in being able to buy the car and make a profit driving it for a few years then sell it. How many times can you take the tax credits? Although the car I'm really tempted to get is a used 2011-2012 VW golf TDI with manual for under $20k and 40 mpg. I like diesels and that car could replace my truck for most daily driving duties even at the farm. BTW, I hug my trees every day as long as they keep producing almonds.

    no limits.

    as for diesel vs. EV.

if you commute is short, EV.

if you need carpool lane access, EV.

if you drive in middle of nowhere, long distance, diesel.

if you drive long distance, near Tesla Supercharger stations, buy a Tesla. Tesla pays your electricity
here is a Tesla Supercharger maps (Tesla is really good about keeping their promise on supercharger build out).

Once again, exterior styling . . . A supercar should LOOK super, not Roccoco.
