Default 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 Curb Weight Leaked

Heavy Hitter: 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 Curb Weight Leaked

"we’ve learned that the Corvette Z06 coupe will weigh 3524 pounds, 226 pounds more than the 2015 Corvette Stingray coupe, while the Z06 convertible will tip the scales at 3582 pounds, some 220 more than the Stingray ragtop. Incidentally, this is 171 pounds heavier, according to Chevrolet, than the 2013 Corvette ZR1 and 325 more than the 2013 Corvette Z06."

I know this is probably not a popular idea, and I have mentioned it before but I would love a "club sport" version of the C7. Sell for the same price as a fully loaded C7, maybe 90k. Thinner glass, reduce sound deadening, delete heavier power options and comfort accessories (power seats, windows), basic infotainment, one piece seat with harness slots, pre-designated areas for roll bar mounts, everything as light as possible. I'd skip the Z06 engine. Let see, 450hp, 2950 lbs. Yeah, that would do the trick. Alas, it is but a dream

Welp, my week is ruined. I can't believe the Vette has succumbed to a diet of McDonalds and shakes, just like every other car.

The 2006 Z06 had a curb weight of 3,130 lbs. I continue to have the opinion that the great modern era of sports cars was from 1991 to 2006, and it has been all downhill from there.

I guarantee the ND will be light than the NC unlike most cars. It's a shame most car manufacturers can't figure out a way to make cars lighter than they are.

    Of course the ND won't have 650 bhp / 650 tq like the C7 Z06 . . .

That's true, there's a very good chance it will have less power than an NC.

It only happens on days that end in y.

A club sport edition would be great, but it would cannibalize Z06 sales. Of course, they would be more profitable because they'd be selling a car with less equipment for a premium.

^ works for Porsche every time.
Take the same car, put less in it, charge more for it, win.

Eric, I don't think there's any chance of the ND having less power than the NC, unless Mazda is trying to piss off every automotive journalist under the sun.
    I bet it'll have 8-12 hp more.

So.. .basically it's about the same curb weight as the 1990-1996 300ZX Twin Turbo... but with gobs more power and torque.
    Not a bad thing.

Of course, it'll eat up tires and brakes... but then again, what Vette doesn't?

    Default Club Sport fail

GM just misses the god damn boat though. Porsche does customer cars with all it's factory race knowledge. Brand kicks ass. GM specifically keeps it's best tech out of customer hands because it doesn't want to be beaten by them on track. Why was there never a C6R clone that the public could buy? It's this head in the sand thinking that limits
the Corvette brand IMO. GM's management still thinks the only way to make money on the vette is to load it down with **** like a 70's caddy and charge $120k for it. What they seem to have missed is that those really smart guys they hired in advanced vehicle actually turned out a world class sports car 10 years ago. The new one is even better. There is a ripe market for a stripped down GT3-RS style build spec. Figure out a flappy paddle for it that uses a clutch instead of a torque converter and you have a car that every enthusiast either wants or at least has respect for.

Once upon a time, guys bought vettes only as jewelry. I think the number of guys buying them solely as weekend track / canyon and autocross toys to thrash and get tire goobers all over now probably equals the number of non-drivers. Build us our damn Club Sport GM!

    ^^^ Nice post, Emilio. Agree 100% (except for the flappy-paddle thing . . .)

Crash standards, and electronic doo-dads increase weight and every year we want our cars to be more comfortable with heated seats, nav, heads up displays,etc.... I'm not sure the market is big enough for hard core track Corvettes like the small group of enthusiasts on this forum when most people who buy them don't mind a few hundred pounds as long as they get all of their gadgets.

I agree the 90s and 00s were probably the heyday, and now 3,200lbs is lightweight and the norm is 3,500-4,500lbs.

Anybody know what the curb weight of the last ZR-1?
If nothing happens and there is no one around why did it not happen?

    Is the Mid-engine C8 legit?

No Billy, the C8 is a long way off it seems.
But there is another car coming I believe. Something that reminds me of a Z28 just in another chassis... and after having some time in the Z28 back to back with a Z51 Stingray I can most definitely say it will be the best option.
