    Isn't an Atom more than a 2-11?
The deposed former Sheriff of trackHQ . . .

    2006 Porsche 997 Carerra Coupe 6-MT - daily driver
1992 Honda (Acura) NSX 5-MT - classic investment I couldn't resist and occasionally drive
    2004 Honda S2000 AP2 6-MT - track day car
2006 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution IX MR 6-MT - when I need a backseat, 4-doors, or a real trunk, and still want to haul ass . . .

I thought the Atom could be had for like 20 grand less.

I like the Lotus looks much more, of course. But there are plenty of purpose built open cockpit cars that are less money for the performance if you start down that road anyway...

2011 BMW M3 Coupe vs. 2011 Ford Mustang GT Comparison - Motor Trend

Within a tenth of each other...

Both ran 1:27's at SoWS CW...

With a "magazine pro" of course

Impressive. Still totally different cars, but still impressive. Too bad the shock valving obscured any thoughts on the feel of the live axle.

Say Billy, you didn't know this article was coming, did you? Be honest!

I don't think the shock valving 'obscured' any thoughts, but rather was exaggerated by the track. SOW is a very tight lowspeed track and IMO isn't the best place for a test like this with such heavy cars. It would be interesting to see the laptimes on a bigger 'normal' track like Laguna Seca or VIR, heck i'd even take Buttonwillow.

On a bigger track that dosn't have as many tight, lowspeed transitions, the Mustang might excel due to its (probably) softer spring rates. Keep in mind that generally speaking, softer springs yield more grip. Also the added dive and squat won't be as big of an issue on faster/larger-radius corners.

The Mustang has a worse weight distribution but (relatively) wider front and narrower rear tire than the M3 (M3 has a stagger but they have overall the same footprint). Similar weight but torque going to the Mustang. With a square tire package and less understeer, the Mustang might show to be even stronger.

In CTSCC the competition is so even that often the track will inherently favor the M3 over the Mustang or vice-versa due to the speeds of the corners and differences in powerband and gear ratios between the two cars. I could easily see this making a couple tenth swing in either direction. -Something to keep in mind.

At the end of the day, to even be in the ballpark of the awesome M3 is a huge statement. Especially one with the "Competition package". I'm now pretty sure the BOSS 302 will run over the stock M3.

And no I had no clue about this until about 10 minutes ago. Pretty cool though.

Wow, a great comparison from Motor Trend. (I'm usually not a fan of them...)

Pobst is a damn good driver (in sports cars anyway).

I've seen a couple in person, now in the video and I still like the blue. It's a good color for a track car or even just a fun car. Clint is young enough that he can DD a car that color and pull it off.
