So why would it make a difference it the power plant has a pushrod or not?

That seems rather arbitrary. Push rods don't offer any advantage that I am aware of. The C5 only got that engine design because the engine is shorter and they could fit it under the hood to retain the body lines they sought for the car.

What about cars with more than two valves per cylinder, cars with coil-overs, etc. etc. Isn't the point to see who has the fastest street car. What is the whole point anyway when guys are dropping 600 HP Cosworth engines into Subarus and they call it a street car. At least my car can legitimately pass a California smog test and still turn a 1:54-1:55 on BW13. That seems a lot more rational for "Street" class.

Most of the cars winning Street would be impounded if pulled over by law enforcement and most are more like ITE class race cars on 180 wear. If I were racing SLB I would tip off the cops to where the meeting point is for the "Street" cars and get them all impounded on the way to the track. I could then run the race in my Yugo and win.

    Just my thoughts....

lol.... its more like a magazine promotional event than a legitimate motorsport event.... so there is no sense in trying to make sense of the rules.

I think the rule was originally intended to keep Viper's out of the competition. I remember back in 2002, when I helped my buddy run in this event, one of the organizer confessed that was the main reason along with the Z06 at the time. The OHC engines are inherently heavier I suppose, but not sure if that counts as a legit penalty (could always just add ballast for the pushrod cars if they were really serious about it).

I think bottom line is this is supposed to be an import/tuner scene event and this was the way they went about excluding the domestics without explicitly saying it.

Agree completely Oli on the street class stuff. The rules are essentially arbitrary and it would be far better if they just used NASA TT classing rules and created appropriate classes around it, like TTU RWD, TTU AWD, etc etc

yea, the event is geared towards import tuner type magazines.. so if a domestic wins the event.. well, the rice boy readers wouldnt dig that...

as far as the rules go... its time attack.. not time trials.... the spirit behind time attack is very differnt.. more open.. run what you brung kinda thing.

time trialers always whine about time attacks...

I say... whatever.. stick to your time trials then...

Yeah, you are right Billy, I would be hard pressed to make those times on 180 tread wear.

But I bet a guy like you could do it in my car though. I am quick in the car, but I have not been "Vetted" (I know that is a sick pun) like you have been in karting and car racing. If I can lay those times down on scrub Hoosiers you could do it on whatever the legal tire of choice is.

Or put another way, AJ Aquilante who won the T1 Runoffs last year and lead every qualifying session this year and who almost won the race until disaster struck from a disabled car, well, I bet he could do it in my car. And I bet you are all the driver he is and maybe a touch more although I speculate....
