Nice pictures! I hope to head out there on Friday while everyone else is shopping.

It didn't look too crowded from your photos... when did you go?

I'll probably go tonight after work. My office is just a few blocks from the Convention center.

I consider that significant progress. I owned a 2003 350Z Track model and always thought it was too big and heavy.

The Evo X MR weighs 300 lbs. more than the Evo IX MR. Mitsu going in wrong direction. Nissan going in right direction.

Just wait for the next few years. You haven't seen anything, yet.

CAFE standards will kill many of the cars we love. I would not be surprised to see the finest of the cars we love be regulated out of existence if not banned outright.

My review of 2008 L.A. Auto Show:

I went to the car show last night. It was probably the most boring show in the last 20 years, and I have been to most of them. Charles is right, the focus on hybrids is dumbing down the industry big time. We are headed for another period like the 1980s when cars were just slow and awful.

Best of Show: Nissan 370Z. This is a definite improvement of the 350Z (I owned a first-year '03 Track model). 100 lbs. lighter, lower, shorter with shorter wheelbase. 10% more hp. Looks great, except for the headlights and tailights that are a very weird shape. Kudos to Nissan for making the car lighter (Mitsu made the Evo X MR 300 lbs. heavier than the IX - booooo). Nissan also gets props for having 2 exciting cars in its line up, the GT-R and the 370Z. 332 hp.

1st Runner-up: Corvette ZR-1: a bit too much bling, but very nice. 620 hp.

2nd Runner-up: Audi TT-S Coupe. The white car on the floor is one of the most beautiful cars ever made. It loses points for not having a proper manual gearbox and clutch pedal, and I don't think one is available. 265 hp.

Dullest display - Porsche. No Turbo. No GT2. No GT3. Only thing new is engine in Cayman and Boxster. S models get 320 hp, which was a needed improvement. The Porsche display just looks the same every year to me. I also found it hard to believe that they want $117,000 for a 997S including options.

Second most shocking price after 997S -- Mitsubishi Evo X MR -- $44,000. Gimme a break. Subaru STI which is probably a better car was $36,000.

Favorites from the exotic rooms -- Ferrari 430 Scuderia -- looks pretty big up close but only weighs 2975 lbs. an has 503 hp. Nice (but it also gets dinged because I don't think a manual is available). Lotus 211 (this was in last year's show too, but I still love it).

Biggest disappointment - Lotus Evora. It just didn't do it for me. Weighs the same as the Scuderia, but has only 275 hp. They need to do better.

Over the top expensive bling: Spyker -- does anybody actually buy these things?

Honorable mention -- Pontiac Solstice Coupe GXP. Nice looking and 260 hp.

All in all, not much of a show.
