Default 1st ChumpCar race... what do I need to know?

I'm joining a team for my first chump car 24hr race... and my first w2w race. They already have a car and have done it before, but looking for some feedback from others.

So, just wondering what I should know beforehand?
I'm pretty sure I have all of my safety equipment (lid, suit, gloves, hans, shoes, and socks)... do I need a shirt/undies too to compete or can I run without it?

Any pointers? whether it's from a driving standpoint or a physical standpoint (drink lots of monster, get more exercise beforehand, poop 30mins before you get in the car, etc)?

are you on my team ?

    few observations:

    1. 2/3 of drivers is SV white/blue group driver skill level.
    2. 1/4 do not have ANY track experience.
    3. 75% of cars break within 2 hours, but most are fixable, 2/3 will go back out.
    4. I believe by hour 3/4, 1/2 of cars would retire.
    5. speed delta on a 90 seconds course is ~15 seconds between fastest and slowest car.

so just drive conservatively. no fancy moves. don't push it. winning and losing is not in seconds, but more like hour. go easy on the car, no curb jumping, no power slides, no threshold braking. although it is a w2w race, don't treat it like one. drive it more like say black group.

I've never done 24 hours. but someone once told me something like 5 cars left at end of 24 hours.

night driving is difficult. dial back the speed.

Chump car is about having fun. don't forget that.

    thanks for the info!

I figured driving an endurance race is much different than a "Time Attack" or "Time Trials" event, since you're trying to keep the car alive. the W2W aspect I'm not too worried about. I'm sure I'll get pushed around a little here and there... just need to keep my head on a swivel

BC, for sure... just gotta find a car, now that I got rid of the civic.

If you use an SFI 38.1 head/neck protection device like. My Safety Solutions R3, you can only turn your head a couple of inches. You need to learn to rely on your mirrors in race traffic.

You don't need undies unless your suit is not 2 layer+
Make sure you have water bottle in the car.
    Radio communication is a must.
Will be at BW, Cal Speedway and maybe Mexico this year
    We have have 4 teams,
Team Cheators, Egg Plant, Magnum P.I.G and Badgascar

    Good luck

Meh.. radio communication is "very nice". It can still be done without.

I recommend a quiet exhaust so you can communicate with cheaper gear.

Thanks, never thought about the water bottle... but makes sense.
    I have a Sparco Profy (3-layer), so I'm happy I don't "need" undies

Radio communication... never thought about that, but makes sense. I have to talk to the team organizer... I was basically asked to join a group of hoodlums so not sure about communication. it's a 24hr race so I'm guessing radio comm. is a necessity.

It does not matter what exhaust you have, is loud out there.
Get a nextel walkie talkie with unlimited, if budget is a concern.
Trust me your equipment will cost double your car cost if this is your first time.
