yea saw this the other day. That was pretty bad. 120mph impact. The 2nd camera view looked a lot worse.

I'm surprised he didn't get KTFO.

When faced with such a situation, is it better to keep the car rolling forward, or the allow it to impact a padded wall sideways, as this driver appears to have done? I am under the impression that you want to hit something with the front of your car first.

It took 1:15 for the crew to get to him. My guess is they'll station emergency crews a bit differently as a result of this crash.

I love the response when the emergency worker asks if he can crawl out the window.

    "We'll see."

I must say without those layers of safety barriers in that area, he would be taking a trip in a helicopter to the hospital. Lucky guy.

I think if you're actually slowing down going in a straight line is preferred. It looked like he was trying to slow the car by sliding it sideways and using the friction of the tires sliding sideways.

    A 370Z with brake failure, now that's surprising . . .

if you look at the incar again, you can see him left foot pumping the brakes to set the pistons against the pads before entering the braking zone. Maybe his brake fluid boiled, the turn before. COTA is a heavy braking track, then again the race just started. I don't even think he did a complete lap yet.
