    Default TDI Cup Car Information

I am getting involved in an interesting circumstance and I am looking for some leads. A close circle of friends have been gifted an abandoned project, a Jetta TDI Cup car. It's a roller with cage, suspension prep, and other items, no engine. I will be assisting on the inventory soon. Looking for some solid leads on this series and cars so I can begin reading and research. Any links and advice welcome!

Here it is on it's way home now.

I remember those cars...they were fairly stock IIRC except they had the top euro-spec tune, which was 170hp instead of 140hp. Otherwise just a Jetta version of a Golf GTI but with a diesel engine...

I think the series was cancelled because all of the fans died from the emissions of the vehicles LOL

I have a friend who did a few TDI Cup races. Said they were crash fests, populated primarily by teenage drivers sponsored by Dad. After getting punted a few times by said teenagers, having to repair the car on his own dime and running out of funds mid season he quit and sold the car.

Not helpful to OP, just chiming in.

Aside from their cost I never understood why people race them.
But obviously I just dont get it. -fatbillybob

Alright, thanks all! Slowly getting into it, the car was built for the Continental Tires Sportscar Series, not the TDI cup. It's gas chassis not diesel. Will try to see where this goes...

That could be a fun car. The price was certainly right. All you need now is an engine. Submit the VIN to a VW dealer and they can tell you what engine it came with.

I think it needs a bigger radiator.

I got a fresh rebuilt sweet LS6 makes documented 490HP at the crank on engine dyno and in full power vette trim about 390hp RWHP and documented 350RWHP with 55mm restrictor in vette trim.
Motor leaves tomorrow with me as a spare and does not come back to Cali until November. If you even think this could be a good idea for your car contact me. fatbillybob@yahoo.com

The TDI cup cars had some transmission mods and a limited slip differential (Quaife I think). Mild suspension prep and safety too, otherwise fairly stock. They televised the series, there should be a couple of seasons up on Youtube. It was half racing half reality show. This was back in 2008/9. I believe the series was run logistically by Arciero-Miller Racing for VW. I got a couple of the Oakley guest driving suits for cheap when they moved on.

That is not a car from the US spec TDI Cup series, its the wrong gen Jetta, appears that you have an 2011+ chassis.

The US cars were all "factory" built, owned and maintained, all would have been built as 2008-2010 MY Jetta. Had a euro spec suspension kit similar to the Polo Cup, Brembo brakes, racing ABS system, race tires. They handled like a skateboard, bounced all over the place.

No one in TDI Cup owned their car, it was all arrive and drive. $45k for the season plus crash damage.
