Default Obd1 need drive cycles before smog check?

Got a 1.6 Miata, does it need anything but a warm cat before the smog check?

If it has a thermostat, just driving it to the smog shop should be sufficient to get it into closed loop and have all emissions equipment working.

I'm not sure.. you could probably call the shop that you plan to take it to and ask them. Different counties have different rules and I know in some places it's definitely better to be safe than sorry.

When I had my 88 RX-7 I would do a few freeway runs before going to the smog station, I never failed doing this.
If nothing happens and there is no one around why did it not happen?

    No drive cycles for OBD1.

They do bulb check with key, then dyno. Light should be off during dyno or you fail.
