You could still tow a car hauler behind if your car doesn't fit in the bed.

After picking up the former 949Racing 8.5 x 18 enclosed, it felt like the Durango R/T was having a hard time towing it...oil temp stays at 240-250 even just cruising on the fwy. I can't imaging what the oil temp would be climbing...let along going up grapevine.

The trailer loaded with my Supermiata is 6700 LB. The maximum towing capacity for my Durango was 7400 LB, but this has a lot of aero drag.

Anyhow, decided to pick this up last week:

2017 Ram 2500HD 6.7 Cummins Diesel 4x4 Crew Cab 6.4 Bed. 6 Speed Automatic Tranny 3.42 Ratio Tradesman (didn't want any expensive electronics that would fail when car is out of warranty). Towing Capacity - 17,250 LB

    Options:
    Transfer case skid plate
    Chrome Appearance Group
    5th wheel / goose neck
Electric Shift on the fly Transfer Case
    LED Bed Lighting
    Park Assist
    Back Up Camera
    Trailer Brake Controller
    UConnect 5.0
    Bed Liner ($500)

    MSRP $53,490. After discount & negotiations paid $42,590 + Tax & License

Our Eldo had a 502 high comp engine. I think the best it got was 8mpg. Still, not being a trailer you could tow at what ever speed you want. Speed and momentum may be the plan to prevent from high-centering in that rig.

Anyone have a experience with the new Chevy Express or GMC small diesel in the full size van?

2017 EXPRESS WT (RWD, 2500 REGULAR WHEELBASE)
The available Duramax® 2.8L Turbo-Diesel is paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission.
369 lb.-ft. of torque, 181 horsepower and a maximum towing power of 6200 lbs.
low noise and vibration allow for driving comfort and control.
    Rear axle, 3.42 ratio

I have seen different numbers on the tow rating that seem to range up to 8,100 for the small diesel?

Out of curiosity I checked these out last week online, seem to have the highest tow rating of any vans with a small diesel - at least from what I saw. Other than this new drivetrain, when was the last time these vans were updated? I feel like they haven't changed in 20 years but that's not necessarily a bad thing for your purposes.which application did you see this diesel having a 8100 pound tow rating? The Canyon /Colorado twins had 7700 tow rating with this engine last time I looked.

I'm pretty sure your stats are a mixture of engines or it's one of the gas V8s. From the Chevy site:

The available Duramax® 2.8L Turbo-Diesel is paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission. This efficient engine offers a robust 369 lb.-ft. of torque, 181 horsepower and a maximum towing power of 6200† lbs. Also, low noise and vibration allow for driving comfort and control.

    Still almost double the multi-sport...

plus it seems some if the people over on the colorado/cayon site are pulling a more 8k?

Maybe being a truck makes a difference?

I think this van with the diesel won't have any trouble towing an open trailer with a Miata on it, certainly no problem towing a Miata on a dolly.

I had ordered a Canyon diesel almost 2 years ago but it wasn't going to arrive before the end that year so I ended up with the truck I have. I like the powertrain and think one of those cargo vans would be really cool if you built out the interior like a small RV.
