Default HPDE Crash at Pocono - What is wrong here?

Why would any organization grid cars out in the open where on-track cars can potentially drive right into them?

It looks like another crazy Evo driver was out of control.

There's a thread about this on miata.net too and it has another angle from a car following the Evo. The Evo got his driver side wheels off and when he corrected and well you know what happened then. Apparently they have stopped pitting the cars in that spot since then - good thinking.

second angle:

WTF?!?!?!? Who on earth thought that was a good idea to grid the cars there?!?!? AND to let the drivers just walk around when they are openly exposed right next to the track?!?

It's pretty funny that the G35 driver who was outside his car had time to run out of the way when he saw the Evo coming.

A Miata race car took out the flagger station at the Riverside turn at Buttonwillow in a race I ran last year (can't remember if it was NASA or CalClub) and the flagger jumped out of the station and got out of the way of the crash just in time. Good reflexes.

There is a whole lot wrong here.

1) Girding the cars in a open unprotected area.
2) Getting out of of the car.
3) "That guy" out of the car and no helmet !
4) The marshal or pit guy left his station (luck he did or he would have been hamburger)
5) Second angle the driver should have gone back to the pits and not park it.

That is the most retarded gridding space ever.

Wasn't there a person that got in the driver's seat of the G35 in the beginning of the video? He had a grey hooded sweater on...I never saw him come out of the car after the crash?

Also, why was there a crashed NSX right next to the G35/Evo crash? You can see it in the still photos at the end...
